Selling Car - Request for Reg Documents?

    Hi,

I am selling a car privately. Somebody has made contact via email and expressed an interest .

In their last email they have requested
" could i have a copy of the registration documents (front and back) in order to get a complete AA car data check."

Is this a reasonable request ? I don't really see what harm could come out of this , yet I am not entirely comfortable emailing a copy of the documentation. A Car Reg is sufficient to have a background check carried out?

No its not all they need is the reg number to do a check.

The only thing that would need to be checked on reg book is if vin numbers and other details match the car and thus would have to be done beside the car.

A copy of the reg book could be used to sell on a stolen car to an unsuspecting third party. I wouldn't be sending then a copy. And if they do buy your car do not give them the reg book. Send it off yourself once they have given you their details

Agreed. Tell them it's available at viewing stage.

    No, it's not reasonable request.
Registration number and VIN number that's pretty much all I'd be willing to give to potential buyer if I though he was genuine.
