This work much the same as a regular show, but with an auction? Somewhere to bring the a small kid and have a wander?

Thinking a blast thru the port tunnel on Sunday would be fun!

Is there admission charge on the Swords auction?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

Yeah, I went along and that ad pretty much sums it up. I think the tenner admission for shows in Swords is on the steep side at the best of times, especially so for OAP's. But I wasnt expecting to cough up 20 quid to go into an auction. I assumed it would be free.

The auctioneer didnt have a clue and seemed to have less interest. Could just about hear what he was saying. No projector, no decent catalogue except for some A4's with no photos or any useful information. This is especially bad considering the cars where not driven through in front of the bidders. It was a complete waste of time for anyone who had any intention of buying today. I was just there as a spectator and for the autojumble.

It wasn't great to be honest. I think the general consensus was that the auctioneer just wanted to get it over with. The AV facilities were not really up to scratch either, a fair bit of confusion all round.
However, it was good to see some good cars, just a shame that only one (or possibly two?) sold. The auto jumble was quite good and anyone I knew that I met seemed to be enjoying themselves somewhat, despite the apparent unsuccessful auction itself.
I didn't have to pay in as I was selling a car and was lucky in the end with lots of interest following the auction. It sold.
I don't normally post a huge amount here and certainly not really in this detail but Just wanted to say that I do hope that there might be some lessons learned from today for the organisers. They at least tried and I hope they try again.

TWENTY ?? - to get in to an auction !!

I think the only lesson to be learned, unfortunately, is to stay well away if the price is over a tenner FIVER ;)

The bad times are back with a bang, €5 for watery coffee, €10 for a stale burger .......... €20 to get into an auction. Time to sell up and emigrate while we can :(

VERY glad I didn't make the trek that I was going to - a day polishing the beast in the spring sun was more enjoyable

Just looking at DD - someone's NOT HAPPY with the auction :mad::mad:
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/vintagecars-for-sale/todays-classic-car-auction/8651859?offset=18

Here is a few tips on organising a car auction:

    1. Don't charge people in who are going to bid.
    2. Get an auctioneer who knows about cars.
    3. Get a proper audio/visual setup (incl. projectors, sufficient speakers etc.).
    4. Get colour brochures made up with pictures and specs of the cars (the sheets given today were pathetic - mixing up BMW 2002 with the year etc.)
    5. Don't act like it was a success when you only sold 1 out of 80 cars.

I think you should get on to your poorly designed website (www.carshows.ie) and make a public apology and refrain from organising any car show ever again. You had your chance and you blew it.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/vintagecars-for-sale/terrible-car-auction/8651659?offset=19

Todays auction at Swords show centre was nothing more than a money grabbing exercise, by ignorant scam artisits. It was great to see such a turnout to partipate in such an event. But the organisers should be ashamed of how they treated the public. The auctioneer knew nothing about cars, was unable to get bids and was unable to be heard. 1hr twenty mins and everything was over, with only one item sold. Fair play to everyone who brought their cars and bikes, but nobody deserves to be treated like they did today.

The classic car scene does not need people like these. The worst organised event I've ever been at.

Well I would like to thank those who organised today auction in swords.... Sherry and #ankers and co. Couldn't make out what the fella with the mike was saying never mind trying to hold an auction, totally disaster from start to finish, I like many other had a car hoping to sell, after it didn't get a bid, I started it and was getting into get home after a wasted sunday, a few people came over and asked why I was leaving, that they were interested in bidding on my car, I told them it was up and never got a bid, they like me couldn't understand or here the guy with the mike. Congratulations to everyone who turned up with there lovely cars, pity the organiser's were more interested in getting money from the public, rather than holding a decent event for us car enthusiasts, after all without us these type of events wouldn't take place.....

This fellow must be related to the auctioneer :p:p , possibly the worst photos and description I've ever seen on DD

Sussed that about these shows a few years back tbh. Even back in the uncertain times of 2011 I found the asking prices were strong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭Zoo4m8

It was rubbish..but I paid a tenner in..maybe the girl at the entrance liked the look of me .
I spoke to a well known collector who had had a go at the organiser and had let him know exactly how he and others felt, and this was before the start..
I went with the intention of buying a particular car that had been well hyped to me before hand but in the flesh I wouldn't give it room in the garden never mind the garage , ( not really the organisers fault, just getting it off my chest :) )
I won't repeat everything that's been said ,it's all true but I found that you had to move about the place to find a good place to hear the auctioneer and talking of which I know the man in question and he was an active motorsport participant in years gone by and would have tried his best..but very hard to stay upbeat when it quickly became obvious how it was going to go..

I am open to correction but I think it made €3500 other vehicles sold after the auction

From what I gather (and I'm open to correction) it wasn't the same organisers as the two normal show / auctions that are usually held here each year.

Sorry, i wasnt too clear there. It was a tenner admission. I was paying for myself and the father. I think no concessions for OAP's is poor practise for any event but for an auction its shocking. To pay that and then walk into something that looked like it was organised an hour before it started........!!

Wouldn't think anyone from this forum would put any value on this lady's opinion as to whether a classic car show/auction/etc was good or otherwise..
In fairness she did spot the bright red SL ( you couldn't miss it) and mentioned the low mileage etc.. A lovely car and seemed genuine, but a car for someone of a certain age and with my advanced years I had to admit to myself that I'd look a right tit driving it so reluctantly moved on..:)

VanDerBrink Auctions is pleased to bring you this amazing collection of Early Ford and Tri-Five Cars and Parts. This auction will prove to have something for everyone. Bob Koepke at an early age loved cars. He bought his first Model A Ford at 12 and it carried him through college. The collection also hosts 7 Nomad Tri-Fives, Corvette, and Wagons, 57 Convertibles, 32-36 Coupes, 3 Window Coupes, Roadsters and hundreds of Parts for Early Fords, Corvette, and Tri-Five parts. Bob was friends with Smokey Yunick and others in a time of NASCAR and the Hot Rod Craze and need for speed. Bob passed away, and Dave was left with the task of settling his Dad’s estate. Dave went to the home, and found it covered with Cars and Parts. With friends from Indiana, they forged a path and found a treasure trove of cars and parts under seas of tarps and in the house and buildings. Dave is keeping a few memories to build, but the collection will be offered at auction with NO RESERVE to Qualified Bidders. VanDerBrink Auctions will liquidate this vast amount of Horsepower and Projects. You won’t want to miss this auction. A copy & paste from the ad -

    'CLASSIC CAR AUCTION 2015

I would like to thank the people that contacted me with feedback regarding the classic car auction in February.

I appreciate that errors were made regarding the Layout and Format of the Auction.

The technical problems that arose on the day and also the poor sound quality did not help on the day.

I would like to sincerely apologise to those whose experience and enjoyment was affected by these issues.

This was my first attempt at running a classic car auction and i assure you that these errors will not be repeated.
