6 month wait for training grant

Hope this is the right place to ask a quick question about funding for doing a training course.

I'm currently unemployed, applied for Job Seekers Allowance last month, but have yet to get any letter back from the Dept. I have a level 7 qualification in Electronics, but I'm looking to start a new career as a Wind Turbine Technician. To better my chances of getting a start somewhere, I'm currently investigating various courses and programmes run by specialist training companies.

The trouble is that any type of suitable training I find, does not have any Government funded assistance unless you are on the live register for at least 6 months. Wind Turbines are such a specialist area that I'll soon have exhausted all my training options, and Energy companies looking for new recruits will value a trained candidate over an untrained one (i.e. me...)

Why is there a 6 month wait? Surely to stimulate the economy and reduce the unemployment figure the Government should make it as easy as possible for someone to get back to work. A 2 month wait would seem much more practical. What am I supposed to do for the next 5 months unless I dig into what little of a pension fund I have, and pay for the all the courses myself?
    Thanks.
    Paul.
