Moving to Kildare from Dublin, job is just off the m50, it'll be about a 150km round trip daily.

Currently own a a 2010 A6 with 60,000 km on the clock. Quite afraid of rapidly depreciating the value by racking up lots of mileage on it.

Any thoughts on what would be the best course of action to take?

Any newer car you buy will suffer rapid depreciation too. I'd stick with the A6, 60k km is very low for the year and at 5 years old it will already have suffered a fair amount of depreciation.

I take it that the A6 you have is a diesel?

The depreciation on that car would level off now so changing it will cost you further expense.

    Yes it is.

Perfect car to do it in then. Stick with what you have unless you want a change anyway.

    This +1

I do about 100km a day mainly m50/n11 on my commute and I have a 2005 A6 has about 260k km on it at the moment and not a bother on it.

150km * 5 days a week * 48 working weeks = 36000KM a year mileage. You'll be hurting the value the more mileage you clock up, but what is the alternative? Sell the A6 and buy a banger diesel?

if it were a 1 or 2 year old car, I would consider selling and other options, but like you say, what is the alternative? you can get a nice 06 / 07 2L diesel, merc or bm etc and pay a bit more on motor tax, but lose far less on depreciation, then again with an older higher mileage diesel, it is more likely wear and tear items or diesel specific items will go wrong.
