Not looking for medical advice - mum is 71, has chronic bronchiolotis , is bed ridden and is now refusing to eat stating she feels too sick, she is extremely underweight already. HSE pysch nurse been out and doesn't think it's depression, GP thinks she won't last much longer, is there somewhere i can go to get her help

Ask the GP should she be admitted to a hospital or hospice. I wish you well as you care for your Mum.

Loss of appetite can be a sign of infection.such as pneumonia. She may need antiotics, steroids etc. Her gp should consider this.

TBH I think the GP has "written her off"- its so sad, she has been severely underweight since about 4 years ago when she got very sick and was in ICU for a week - touch and go - she hasn't been herself since. She has been in and out of hospitals with IV antibiotics for pseudomonas and assisted breathing but at the moment she is not showing signs of infection, just is weak, nauseous, not able to tolerate food. Myself and my dad just don't know what to do next? Have rung PHN and all she can suggest is getting the nutritionist out again.

I feel so sorry for you and your family, it's a heartbreaking situation. The health centres often provide protein drinks for people who can't eat properly, although you've probably tried her with them.
If I were you I'd get another GP to give an opinion, for peace of mind if nothing else.

we have those drinks - she'll take maybe a few tablespoons of it a day, shes a stubborn lady! I was thinking of a second opinion alright - gonna give GP a ring again and go from there, Ill check out the hospice option as well Thanks for the replies :o

Maybe ask for the forticremes or Cal shots. Both of those are smaller than the drinks but more nutrients in them and maybe easier for her to eat if she takes the drinks by the spoonful.

Get her into a and E in and ask for a transfer to an active rehab unit.
