Wheel refinish- powdercoat or paint? DIY or pro?

I have a pair of motorbike wheels that need repainting in a graphite grey metallic. As bike tyres get changed quite often (in terms of mileage anyway) what's the most durable, cost effective option? I've used gloss black aerosol hammerite and I've used Halfords alloy wheel paint in the past on other projects and got solid results but I really want to get these refinished properly once and for all.

Should I just bite the bullet and get a pro job done or are there good DIY products? Would pro paint be tougher than powdercoating (I'm suspicious that it chips easier than paint)?

You'll probably get a better response by posting this in the motorbikes forum. Seems pretty free quiet in here! No experience of powdercoating I'm afraid.

Whatever you do the wheels will have to be blasted back to bare metal, the slightest hint of corrosion will result in the paint flaking off in time.
Sodablasting works well and isn't that hard on the wheels.
Good Powdercoat is pretty durable stuff.
You'll have to budget for new wheel bearings as well if you get them blasted and painted/powdercoated.
Remove discs and all fasteners and then use old bolts in the holes so they don't get filled with paint.
