I've a job interview for a well known fashion retail shop in Dublin. I applied for the position of Team Member and would like to know if anyone had any tips as I'm not very experienced with job interviews (second ever). It's going to be a group interview.
Whatever advice you have I'd like to hear it. And also how to dress. It's for a shop like Champion Sports/JD/Lifestyle etc.

I'm sorry I can't be of much help to you - hopefully you'll get better replies.

But one thing about a group interview - while it's good to make some contribution(s) to the discussion - it's also very important to show that you can listen to others. The person who is dominating a discussion may not be best suited to the job. So don't be disheartened if you feel that others 'shine' more than yourself - but at the same time do enough to get yourself noticed, in a positive way.

I think even though it's a group interview, you'd be wise to dress as if it was an 'ordinary' interview - i.e. neatly and respectably!

    Good luck.

Here are some tips that should help.

1, Always dress to impress. Doesnt matter what the job is. Be it for a part time cashier position in Dunnes Stores or some top level exec job in a huge company... Same rules apply.
Some like to wear the full suit with tie combo (or shirt and black skirt for women) Then some like to dress the 'Smart Casual' look.

2, Don't worry about the group interview. Generally but not always, you'll be given an exerise as a group. Then you talk about how to resolve something as a group.
It's mainly to see how you interact with others. There is always at least 1 person who mouths off and play boss. Just leave 'em to it but make sure you have input.
If you come off as quiet as a mouse that's not gonna look good for you because the job calls to interact with customers.

3, You're going to be asked the usual retail questions. Often one is "Give an example of when you recieved excellent customer care?" So just make up a story :) Like that time you brought back your mp3 player to Argos.

4, All jobs have firece competition these days but you can train a monkey to work in retail as it requires no skills. So competition extra firece (i'm not looking down at retail, I was a monkey for years myself)
