    Hi,
    Going unreg for this
I have a part time job starting on Friday and I'm afraid to start.
I know some people in the village, but their are also people who I know to see and vice versa and I'm just afraid that while working that there going to slag me for no reason.

I know it sounds stupid, but I just fear that people will stage me or say something in everything I do life. Jobs, presentations and ebb stupid stuff like asking a lecture a question or getting up out of class to go to the bathroom. Nobody does or will say anything I just can't remove the fear factor that something might happen.

    Thanks

Feel the fear, but do it anyway because the more you do stuff you fear the quicker you will get over this phobia. Congratulations on getting this job, well done.

All I can say is you should under no circumstances tolerate any slagging if it makes you even the slightest bit uncomfortable. Literally tell them to "F*** off". I mean actually swear at them. Tell them to "Go f*** themselves". Literally.

Man you got a job. You are valuable! You are the man. Literally say the above swear words if they make you feel uncomfortable. Don't be polite if they make you feel bad brah. You're the man!!

Literally, if they slag you off - tell them to "Go f*** yourselves!"

Good luck on Friday! Not that you'll need it...

Congrats on the job, if people do anything, which they probably wont, tell them to get the boat.
Well done on the job! :)

Quite literally the worst piece of advise I've ever seen on here. If he is in any kind of customer service role, he can't and shouldn't do that.

OP - just keep your head down and politely ask them to leave etc. Telling anyone to go f*** themselves on your first day of work is the easiest way for it to be your last day of work as well.

I think its completely normal to feel nervous about starting a new job, but it sounds as though you have anxieties in other areas that are making this worse. Please don't start imagining all the bad stuff that may never happen. Don't play out situations in your mind before you get there - or if you do, make them positive situations. You're going to do really well in your new job, just keep picturing yourself being happy and confident there.

I really can't believe this is the worst advise you've ever seen on here. I was under the impression he would be working WITH these bullies. Work place bullies who were going to slag him off. The OP isn't entirely clear would you/would you not agree?.

If he values his job more than his integrity, then I wouldn't necessarily suggest telling customers to go f*** themselves.

But I would certainly suggest so to anybody else who slags him off or makes fun of him. Making fun of people is nasty craic.

A short and sharp f*** you can be enough to tell somebody you're not someone that accepts being slagged off. I'm not talking friendly banter - I'm talking nastiness, bullying, c***ishness.

To be honest, I stand by my statement. Don't let anybody slag you off or belittle you OP. You hold you're head up high and either A) Tell them to go f*** themselves or B) well, actually I don't have a B. But I sincerely wish you well.

OP, why do you think these people are going to slag you? Seriously? I wonder is this your anxiety getting the better of you? What sort of job is it anyway that you think they'd be bothered taunting you?

I'd ignore the advice of the poster suggesting you tell them to fook off. In my opinion that'll just fuel the fire and make them try to provoke you more.

I offered the advice thinking they would be workmates, equal workers not customer Vs worker. I mean what kind of b******* are we dealing with here. Jeez, WTF. OP take my advice with a pinch of salt - but remember it nonetheless.

Actually you're right - I read the original post too quickly and assumed it'd be customers rather than colleagues :o

I'm still not understanding why you think they're going to slag you though. It's a little hard to work out exactly what you're trying to say in this sentence but you sound like you're quite an anxious person. Have you ever considered going to talk to a professional about it? If you're in college, there'll be a student counselling service. It might be worth getting in touch with them and having a chat.

I know it sounds stupid, but I just fear that people will stage me or say something in everything I do life. Jobs, presentations and ebb stupid stuff like asking a lecture a question or getting up out of class to go to the bathroom. Oh no man! I'm not necessarily right; the opening post is just, in my opinion, a little confusing and possibly open to interpretation.

I actually imagined a Lidl/aldi type/big shop/factory type job where there'd be loads of workers but after some reflection I'm guessing it could in fact be a pub, which would explain the slagging aspect of things.

If it was a pub, maybe some milder retorts/quips/jovial half-serious, half-joking threats of barring would suffice.

So, Fridays almost over, how did the first day in the new job go? I'd like to bet it wasn't half as bad as you were worrying it might be!
