    Hello
I'm seeking advise on competency based interviews. I have an interview at the end of the month for an administration role. Any advice? There will be 4 people on the panel also.

Have you found their competencies on their website or whatever?

Have at least one example of a time when you demonstrated each of those competencies and how it worked out for you. Look up the S.T.A.R. interview method and make sure your answers are to the point.

Competency based interviews are much easier to prepare for once you know the competencies they're looking for.

Just have lots of examples from previous experience ready to use.

Questions will take the form of, "Tell us about a time when......."

Make sure you give one good clear example and don't start giving generalised answers like "Well I would normally do X, Y or Z."

I normally give the candidate one reminder when they do this and if they continue they throw the interview.

    Best of luck !!

I agree on that if you know the competencies they are looking for its easier to come up with suitable examples. 'STAR' approach is helpful when giving examples. Situation, task, action and result. Plenty tips on google. Best of luck OP!

    Hi there

The job you are interviewing for will have certain competencies which may have been mentioned in Job ad. I recently had a competency based interview and some examples from it where
    1) Resources
    2) Services
    3) People

There will will usually be 5 or 6 and you will get a question on each for example

    1) tell me about a time when you provided a more effective use of resouces
    2) can you tell me a time when you provided an effective service
    3) can you tell me a time when you have shown effective leadership

these are just examples, your questions will be tailored towards your competencies
    use the S.T.A.R
    Situation
    Task
    Action
    Result

Get the first two out of the way as quickly as you can by setting the scene and outlining task you were givem. Most important part is the action you took and the results you achieved. On my recent interview I fell down on spening two much time on the first two and not enough on the latter two.

Judge your interview by the time. If you are allocated 30 mins and there is 4 competencies you will probably only be given 5-6 minutes for each and the interviewers will cut you off if you go over your time
    hope this helps
