Pay as you go meter

    When you move out rented accommodation & have had a pre pay meter fitted will the old meter be fitted back if the owner requests it? as some people find the older ones easier to read & wil it cost?

He or she will need to call our colleagues in the Pay As You Go team on 1850 30 10 30 directly from the property and advise them of the balance on the meter as well as meter reading. The device would be deactivated once the code is put in and there is no cost involved in doing so. [/font]

    But can you have the original one fitted back instead of the keypad one? & when I  move out can I ring up & get the code when I close the account? as it was me who got it changed in the first place

    Hi Brian.D,

    It depends what type of Pay As You Go meter has been installed whether the device will be removed or not. If your original meter has been replaced by a brand new meter with RM number 080 or 081, then the meter will remain as the original meter was taken away. It will function as a standard meter instead once deactivated, but it can be reset to prepay mode again if required. This seems to be the type of Pay As You Go meter that is in your property. On the other hand, if the original meter remained and a device was just fitted inside instead, this could be removed.

    As long as you don't owe any debt, you can ring up for the code yourself. Otherwise, the landlord can call once you've moved to revert the meter back to bill mode. In either case, the 60 digit code will deactivate the prepayment meter.
