Hi I have a 15" Macbook Pro Retina with a damaged display, where in Dublin will replace the screen? Any good service places? I know it is going to be expensive!

It's a pricey repair no matter where you go, but I highly recommend Compu B - I had a 13" retina display replaced by them last year. Excellent workmanship, guaranteed genuine parts, and a quick turnaround time.

For an expensive device like that you don't want to scimp on the repair.
Take it to an Apple authorised repair centre and get it done properly.

How much was the replacement if you don't mind me asking?

I can't remember the exact price off the top of my head, but it was up around the €300 mark - it's an expensive repair :/ That's what apple would charge you by the way - Compu B is an authorised repair centre.

I'll see if I can dig out the receipt later and get the exact price.

If you take it to an unauthorized service center, it will void any and all warranty on the device and also if an issue arises down the line that maybe only Apple can resolve they will not touch it because an unauthorized center has worked on it!

Been quoted just over 950 euro for it, so pricey is not the word...

Christ - where did you get that price from?! I find it hard to imagine a 200% increase in price for an extra 2" of screen real estate...

You'd nearly buy a new macbook cheaper.

Have you tried Mactivate up in Blanchardstown? Guy I work with has had his in there a couple of times and got good enough service - as pricy as anywhere else but worth a try. Also try the actual only Apple shop in Ireland - I know the GBP is madly expensive at the moment, but may still work out cheaper?

Yeah that's about right it I was quoted €1500 in CompuB a few years ago for the 15" Retina. ( Covered by guarantee thankfully)

And I paid €450 for a regular 13" macbook screen replacement 4 ish years ago

I may get frowned upon for saying this, but for that kind of money I'd be giving serious consideration to buying a secondhand retina display unit on eBay and fitting it myself.... :/

    Genuinely shocked at that price.

Bondi Group are Apple certified for repairs though they can't do warranty repair work.

are they? They don't seem to be on the list on apple's website and don't have the official logos on their website.

I didn't think you could be apple certified and 'not' do warranty work

He is trained; it's just that Bondi isn't registered as a service centre and I've seen his certificate for myself :) It is a small set up and they do other Mac specific things so Dean is obviously happy as things are.

Having a certified engineer is different to being an certified repair centre. Apple only supply genuine parts to authorised service centres.

Certifications need to be maintained and are updated all the time, I think you need to be attached to a service centre to keep them upto date .. He probably worked in a service centre prior and still has the original Certs.

The screen on my macbook was damaged and it ended up working out cheaper to buy a new laptop

FWIW, DIY repairs are easy and A LOT cheaper if you're happy to use spurious parts
