Hi, any of you lads had the aeration system retro-fitted to your tanks?Would appreciate any info - have applied (safety scheme~) to have the external agitation points fitted, but now wonder if the aeration system wouldn't be a lot cheaper / easier / as effective if fitted - would appreciate an idea on price and fitters too, based in South west.
    thanks

No idea on price or anything like that but lad that does my slurry also does it for a lad with aeration. What he says is that it's really for dairy boys. Used mostly in tanks that are taking in everything including dairy washings and where cows are held for milking. System needs to run every night so ideal if you have night saver. Slurry is always ready for spreading so he often puts out a few loads onto paddocks after they have been grazed. You need a back up generator as if the esb is out for a few days the system won't be able to mix it.

Other thing is for retro fitting is that fitters will need to wear air tanks when fitting it.

I got quote of nearly 20k for a 110 X 35' tank. would love system but way too dear for me.

20k you'd fit a permanent electric pump agitator for less than that surely.

Something like this would surely do ?
    Less than € 2000.00 ?

Don't think that would agitate big tank. I looked at the costs of these systems. And reckoned quite a large part is pipe work and joints. They are not cheap and you need a massive quantity as there is an outlet every 2 meters or so. then you need a manifold system

Assuming the tank is two meters deep one 6" version would mix and Aerate the tank in two hours.
No installation or Pipework Just drop it in, 17.5 KW on the down side.

I wonder by pumping air in through slurry every night does the nitrogen in the slurry get lost to the atmosphere?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    Adding air is 78% Nitrogen

Yes, but it's the oxygen that would oxidise the N in the slurry to NOx Is there an ag student on here.

I'm an ag student and have no idea!! Aeration systems have been mentioned and nothing about losing N in the tank
