Concussion protocol

Was watching the superbowl Sunday and was impressed by the actions of the referees when Avril took a bad hit to the head. He was waving to the fans as he was going off the pitch but was unable to return after he failed the concussion tests. Found this story on it. Looks like it worked well on Him but not so well on the Patriots receiver later i nthe game. Has rugby got such a protocol in place....and how often is it followed?

Yes, you'll see it happen in most games. A sub comes on and the player in question leaves the pitch for about 10 minutes to do the tests.

Concussion will be a problem until the first generation of pro players get old and the problems, if any, become apparent then.

As with most things something has to go badly wrong before something is done about it unfortunately.
