Esp light, heater plug & hand brake lights have come on . Car seems to be driving fine. Is it sufficient to get the warning lights shut off or does it sound like a major problem ? Thanks for any advice

Sounds like you have a problem alright. Might not be major. The same machine that knocks off the light should tell you why they came on in the first place. Check your brake fluid level though before anything(brake warning light).

Probably grand but just in case. Sounds more like a electrical issue. Battery or altenator problem maybe because it's thrown up a hape of lights.

Heater plug light indicates an engine issue.

Esp will automatically be disabled as a result because the system depends on correct engine function.

Thanks. Heater plug light still flashing this morning. Other fault lights still on. Car started fine and it was well frozen. My usual mechanic will probably not be able to sort it. Will end up at main agent I suppose

No need for the main dealer. First step is to get it scanned for stored fault codes, it may be something quiet basic.

Most independent garages will be equipped for this.

Those passats can do funny things when brake light bulbs are blown. Check to see if both rear brake bulbs are gone!

Thanks.. Passats do funny things al right. Lovely car to drive but electrics are cuckoo . Checked brake bulbs and they are fine. Wonder could it have something to do with cruise control switch as the control clock is still showing in red.I rarely use it but yesterday the son was messing with it as I was driving ( & he is old enough to know better )

Could be water near the ECU. There's a plenum drain that gets blocked under the scuttle panel. Noticed the sound of water sloshing around up front at all?

It could be.... no point in speculation or guess work until you get it scanned. Where are you based ? If in Kildare i can scan it no problem.

This problem doesn't result in water near the ECU, it results in water in the CCM (Central convenience module).

Thanks. Got it scanned tonight. 2 Heater plugs not working and will be replaced Saturday. Warning lights out now. It was strange why the ESP went off. Back on now. Also cruise clock was showing and would not go off. By the time I got to mechanic the only fault light still on was brake. Hope all well in morning as have an early long journey pulling horse box

In my old b5.5 the ESP light used to come on sometimes when someone sat on the rear seat, I think the yaw sensor is under there? I found that if I hit the seat and switched off/on the ignition it usually put the light off again.

Heater plugs replaced and al fault lights off...... until ten or fifteen minutes after I left the garage.

The fault codes that showed up initially were just for heater plugs and EGR. The EGR light has been on for years.

    DTC 05715

    05658

    05661

    01025

I will be back in garage tonight to have fault codes re read

ABS pump problem just diagnosed so it looks like a need a new or second hand one. Is second hand a realistic option ?

Seems front passenger door & boot locks also need replacing

Dont see why you couldnt use a second hand pump. Dont think its a common issue. Maybe flussh all the fluid too while your at it.
