Indicating at roundabout query

    I have a question about a particular roundabout near my test centre. When you are coming up to the roundabout if you are turning left or going straight you move into what was, up until that point, a hard shoulder but is now used to separate does going left or straight from those going right.
    My question is, if you are going straight, do you indicate to go into X on the diagram (which was a hard shoulder marked with blue lines on the diagram) and then turn off your indicator before entering the roundabout to show you are not turning left. Or do you just not indicate as it wasn't previously a lane but a hard shoulder?

    Any time you are changing lanes you are required to indicate so I think you should indicate.

    Check your mirrors a couple of times on the approach and drift into the left lane immediately after the hard shoulder has closed. No real need to indicate unless someone behind was trying to force their way in from behind you early.

    Are there road markings separating the lane that you are in (as you approach the roundabout) from the new lane that used to be the hard shoulder? If there are and you are crossing over clearly marked lanes, then yes you should indicate, as you are changing lanes.

    If there are no lane markings and your driving lane just merges with the former hard shoulder to form a new driving lane, then no, I wouldn't indicate, as you aren't changing lanes.

    If its a bit of a mish mash, they haven't gotten around to painting in new road markings and some of the old hard shoulder markings are still there, then yeah, I'd indicate just to be on the safe side.

    In that case treat everything separately, so firstly you're swapping lanes. Indicate, mirrors and blind spot check. Then you have a roundabout - if you're going left (first exit) keep indicating left. If you're going straight over, turn your indicator off after the lane swap, pass the first exit then mirror and indicate left for the exit.
