Performance problem with Irish Independent app with feedhenry cache

Long story short... I was having performance problems and my internal storage on my Samsung S2 was filling up and I decided to look into why. I attached the phone as USB media to my laptop and used linux to query the folder structure to find the culprit.

There was 1.5Gb used up in the /Android/data folder, 1.1GB in FeedHenry's folder. Here's a snippet:
    $ du -h --max-depth=1
    64K	./com.android.browser
    128K	./com.google.android.music
    192K	./com.google.android.youtube
    1.1G	./com.feedhenry.fhjjjn7In7fqJG2LHTv3LVLanX

The 1.1GB comprised of a tree structure of folders, possibly 1500 folders in heirercial structure. Within these were ~65,000 objects, all .png files, from 20k to 450k in size.

I thought, well this looks like a caching system for some application, so I set about finding FeedHenry as an application, then uninstalling it. As soon as I did, the Irish Independent application disappeared... Ok, figures!

So as I use the application a few times a day, I reinstalled the application on the 28th of Jan and checked the folder structure again today. It was 120MB yesterday and it's 152 MB now

    152M ./com.feedhenry.fhjjjn7In7fqJG2LHTv3LVLanX
    xxxyyy@System1 /C08B-08E8/Android/data $ find -name '*.jpg' | wc -l
    39
    xxxyyy@System1 /C08B-08E8/Android/data $ find -name '*.png' | wc -l
    413

It's growing at a rate of ~450k per image and ~25MB a day!

    That's pure crazyness!
Seeing as both the Irish Indo and FeedHenry are both developed in Ireland, does anybody have a clue why the caching objects are not being managed and are allowed to run away like this?

That's worrying. I was hoping to get my mother a tablet and her main use would be newspapers so that would torpedo that idea.

I can't offer any technical advice but I think you should pass this on to the app developers. Irish apps have been getting a bad rep on here recently so I hope the developers are aware of these issues

For the record... 3 days later...
    196M	./com.feedhenry.fhjjjn7In7fqJG2LHTv3LVLanX

    and...
    xxxyyy@System1 /C08B-08E8/Android/data $ find -name '*.png' | wc -l
    533

That's an increase of 42MB and 120 objects in the cache.

My opinion: Irish Independent is a ****y rag of a paper anyway.

My real advice: Mayb switch to browsing their articles through a rss reader like feedly?
