I mentioned this elsewhere in another context, but it's a nice enough thing that it ought to have its own thread here I think, so...

From the WDAI facebook page (with permission):

Garda Commissioner Supports Shine a Light on Poaching Campaign.

We are pleased to confirm Garda Commissioner, Nóirin O'Sullivan, has confirmed An Garda Síochána will become a partner in our public awareness campaign, Shine a Light on Poaching, with the inclusion of the Garda crest on our campaign poster. The confirmation is recognition the role the association plays in highlighting this crime and An Garda Síochána commitment to tackling deer poaching in partnership with Wild Deer Association of Ireland members, An Garda Síochána and other state agencies.

The initiative promotes awareness and best practice advice as to what one should do if they suspect a deer poaching incident. The campaign is supported by all the key stakeholders including Coillte Teoranta, the National Parks & Wildlife Service and Countryside Alliance Ireland. The campaign tag line and poster headline is "The unauthorised taking of deer (poaching) is illegal and dangerous!" and has a call to action to take note of all relevant details (vehicle registration, colour, location etc) and contact your local Garda station immediately.

Below is our updated campaign poster, please print and share.

Kindof think it goes without saying that getting the Commissioner to publicly endorse a programme run by the WDAI with the Garda crest is no small thing...

Great to see them showing an interest and hopefully phone calls won't be ignored and proper punishment given to those who are caught.
Step in the right direction just hope it's not too late.
Numbers have dropped big time. Hardly seen 3-4 deer since Xmas

WDAI also have an online option where you can report deer poaching, here's the link http://www.wilddeerireland.com/report-crime.html

From recent media coverage they also seem to be part of "Operation Bambi" the Garda campaign that has resulted in a lot of convictions in recent times.....

Good to see a hunting organisation been active on this :)

I suspect it is, big decline in my area this year anyway.

Had an incident last week when i was out, a deer was shot in the field next to me. Heard the lads afterwards looking for "him" after what they were saying was a heart and lung shot.

They kept referring to the deer as "he" and in the end they didnt find him afaik.

Was wondering about reporting it, but seemed too flimsy to go by. Should probably have done so and the evidence would have been the deer if we found him.

I had two other incidents in that same location in september where i suspect females were shot.

Gonna keep a much closer eye on it now.
