hi folks, lights out on dash but engine runs, lights and indicators all ok. No speedo or revs counter. Simple scan tool throws 00059 - T30 for internal illum malfunction. All fuses appear ok. Relay perhaps??

    Thanks in advance guys.

Cheers Paddy, yes, had seen that so just looking for the bloody relay location  Its either under the bonnet or in the compartment under the steering column. All fuses are OK.

Have a look on page 37 of this PDF, looks like relay A4. May be wrong though.

    "A4 - Terminal 30 voltage supply
    relay - J317 (458) (diesel)"

Have you anyways of removing the dash and testing it on its own. I've heard of Audi clocks giving trouble like this.

Passat and Octavia clocks are well known to cause trouble, there is a guy online who is based out in Greenogue Ind. Estate who I would recommend for repairing them, a mechanic wouldn't go at repairing a clock, it is a specialist job requiring instrumentation experience and skill, and as the vehicle immobiliser in a Passat/Octavia is in the clock, swapping it out with a scrapyard replacement part will probably fix your clock issue but then you won't be able to start your vehicle as it will not get past the handshaking process that turns off vehicle immobilisation:

    Cheers for the info guys,

In reference to the error code, I'm still hoping that in reference to the Rosstech info, it is something less sinister. Anybody got a VCDS (VAG-COM) on Dublin Northside just in an effort to pull a proper report as opposed to the generic OBD code ?

Im based in Kildare but maybe on the Northside Friday or Saturday evening. I have VCDS and could scan it for you.

UPDATE: What a weird one. Owner tried the 2nd key and guess what.......?

Yep, all lights back on dash. Asked him to then try the old key and sure enough, that's working fine now too. What a weird situation ! ?????

Meanwhile, Tossy had very kindly offered to run a VCDS for him so I'll politely take a rain cheque ans we will see how it pans out. Fecking over-complicated electronics! :D

    Thanks again Tossy.
