Underground Electrical Cable

Currently there is an ESB pole in the field beside a house, there is plans to build an extension to the house which means the ESB pole has to move.
The Engineer has mentioned an underground cabling from another pole, but will mean a trench in the field.
The concern is if there is work done to the field in the future (drainage), will the cable be in the way (not deep enough)?
Has anyone any experience of this?

You, or your digger-man, will be digging the trench. So put it as deep as you like yourself.
Go a metre at least, and ideally back fill with gravel, putting a warning strip of plastic tape (the yellow and black, Hazard stuff) at least 300 mm above the cable.

I dont know the exact rules - but check them out before you do the job.

There is something like if the distance is under a certain amount, then you can use one size pipe. If its over this, a bigger pipe must be used. I know cos we had to get the bigger pipe when we were building the house, due to being over some specific distance.

Usually the longer the distance you need to carry current the thicker the cable needs to be . So that might be reflected in the conduit size

Thanks lads, good food for thought.
Have to walk it Saturday as there was shoring done in the 60/70's & try to avoid them.
    Always something when you're farming

Defiantly put in marker tape over the pipe for future safety, it's cheap enough
