Hey guys, just wanted to ask the pc builders on here, have you done the IT Support Technician – CompTIA A+ course, and is it worth doing?

Yeah did it a couple of years ago, its a good course and I definitely learned a lot from it. Its a very good course to do if you want to do PC repair or indeed build your own machine.

It's a good course, and the CompTIA brand is well known.

Personally, when doing the exam I found doing the two parts separately to be better, as you can do a last minute revision in the break between the hardware and software exams (rather than doing one big software+hardware exam).

Great coarse if you are not using/building/fixing computers regularly. You will learn a load, did the coarse recently and thought I was fairly knowledgeable until I started the coarse. Learnt a load.

Great site for tutorials on it is

    www DOT professormesser.com
    (can't link websites directly)

There are also plenty of videos on youtube to help you through

A+ is a very good basis for an IT Hardware Technician, I did it many years ago and though at the time it covered the likes of serial and parrallel ports I thought I'd never need that crap.
Lo and behold many companies were still tied to that sort of thing so it was really good to know.

    It's a great foundation.

Also think of it like this, if ten people apply for a job, all evenly matched, but only you and 3 others have A+ as well, then you 4 will be the ones shortlisted.
