I have a Ford focus 2007. I only have one key for it.

I can get an electronic key cut by dublin locks in capal street (dublin) for €150 or a normal key for €85.

Can I get an electronic key copy done cheaper anywhere else ?

    AutoKey.ie is asking €160.

    thanks

Have you spoken with an authorised Ford dealer in relation to this, especially the dealer that sold the car originally in 2007? They would have a record of the coding to match the car if it has remote central locking.

I bought the car second hand. I'm the 3rd or 4th owner. It's originally from the UK also.

    Thanks for the feedback

In that case. If the car originally came from the UK it might be worth a try contacting Ford Ireland and providing whatever details they require or as I mentioned earlier your nearest authorised Ford dealer.

I had a mk2 2007 ford focus and priced a load of places and autokey were the best so went with them and it was a really good service the key worked perfect. There was actually a bit of work in coding it the guy hooked up a computer and done it. Id be slow to go with an standard locksmith as they might not have to proper equipment to code the key. Not much good just cutting and handing you the key as it won't start it or anything until it's programmed.

The guy in capal street codes the key while you're there. He needs the key and the car to code it. Slightly cheaper the autoKey and handier to get to from work.

The cheapest way would be to get the normal key and buy a remote off eBay. With 2 coded keys you can code additional ones yourself. It will cost about 20 for the remote on eBay and then get a locksmith to cut the blank to match your key.

Was the original key a remote? They can't code the key without the car so chances are they just copied the transponder, I was quoted €35 to do that on a mk1 focus.

Yes the original was a remote key with transponder.

I was able to start rhe engine with it and it was done while I waited, and my car was parked at home in Drumcondra.

Not knowing anything about how these keys work, and being in the the same situation with just one key for a VW, is "just copying the transponder" a bad thing ?

I have no idea how they work other than they open the car sorry. What I do know about some fords is that with 2 different keys coded to the car, you can code additional keys or remove a lost key. If you only have 1 key another cant be coded by yourself. A key can't be coded unless the car is present.

FWIW - I sold a 2004 Focus a couple of years ago (also UK car) and from what I remember the standard key set that came with the car was 1 Electronic + 1 Ordinary.

When we bought it there was only the Electronic key but after 4wks of hassling the dealer he managed to track down the other key from the previous owner - had been put away in a safe place apparently.

I got it done in Dublin Locks on capel street for €150 . He did it in about 15 minutes.

Ring them first before going as the guy is always out on the road. 0862228222

    Thanks for the replies.
