If you get an IX grade (incomplete due to extenuating circumstances) then you'll have the opportunity to complete the module (exam/resit essay/assignment - depends on the school) at a later date without penalty - normally the semester following the semester in which you received the IX. Contact your school now and see what format they offer students.
