Maybe you have a dud battery,
There could be a leak/drain on the battery. something might be staying on and draining it. after a long drive , disconnect the earth overnight on a cold night and see the following morning when you reconnect the battery if it starts,
lastly is the alternator charging the battery. Check the voltage with a multimeter and check the belt is tight

Also worth checking the battery connections are clean and tight , the same with where the earth connects to the body and where the positive connects to the starter

If this was 1986 your thread title would be like water off a ducks back to everyone :).
Dodgy battery I'd say. I got a new battery in my Octavia under warranty a few months ago when she kept going dead randomly. One of the cells was dead.

Had a 08 Octavia, cigarette lighter had current even when there was no key in the ignition. Meant sat nav was on 24/7. When battery got old had to resort to jump leads regularly. Have you any accessory plugged into the cigarette lighter?

Have you serviced it recently? Plugs might need changing.

Plugs won't have anything to do with it, it goes with a jump.

It needs a battery and to find out what's causing a drain on it.

Do you do lots of extremely short trips op?

Could be something to do with your starter, My beamer does the exact same thing when it's cold and only goes on a jump, When it's not cold she fires up straight away :)

20 min runs with demisters/heating/lights etc. is a tall order for most cars. Especially if you have car alarms/sat navs/dash cams running in the background. Get the system checked out and if all passes move jobs somewhere further away :)

Pull that out first anyway because thats not ideal.

Is it the original battery ? what year is it?

Realistically 7-8 years is swap time for a battery no matter which way you paint it. Most people dont want to buy one because they prefer to push the car or jump it rather than face the realisation that the cars heart (the power system) is old and near death.

If you car fits in the range of time frame and has original battery just bite the bullet. Chances are it wont start just when you really really need it.

Op has in original post that the battery was replaced last year but have to agree , a load of people are as stubborn as hell with regards a battery, .
For whatever reason they wont change the battery and batterys arent that dear. id prefer to have the peace of mind with having a new battery in the car
