Parental Leave question

We have a 4 year old who we would like to take parental leave for.

my other half wants to use their parental leave or 9 weeks of it to be more precise.

The thing is, I am always off from my job for all of dec and Jan.

So my oh would like to take dec and jan off too.

Now heres where it gets confusing.

I am told that their employer can postpone it for 6 months and they probably will just to be awkward (there is no seasonal variation in their job so i believe the employer can only postpone once.)

My question is - If my oh applies for dec and jan off now, and the employer decides to be a dick and postpones it just before dec, can we just say "ok, postpone it, we'll take it next dec and jan instead" or does it have to be taken no more than 6 months after the postponement.

    Its all very confusing.

Check in with Citizeninformation but based on the writing I'd say it has to be within the next 6 months and if you ask to postpone a year you'd risk running into a new "period" and hence they can postpone again.
