    In case its of interest;

    Unleaded is going up by close to 3c a litre wholesale Tuesday night and Derv by approx 1.5c a litre.

    So if your filling up in next few days I'd suggest you do it Tue or Wed.

    Dont shoot the messenger etc etc

    Are you my diesel supplier, He's famous for these type of nudge nudge wink wink stories too. His headstone will read 'this is a price just for you, tell nobody else'

    The filling stations will probably absorb it seeing they've been doing so well the last few weeks. :p

    Why fuel is priced by the dollar is beyond me.

    It is not like I expected it to drop any further tbh. It was only a matter of time.

    Filled up at 1.24 but can't store any more than 50-60 litres anyway.
    Let's see what happens next.

    I filled my tank at €1.13 in Ballsbridge last night. I squeezed every last drop into it and thought about filling some cups and saucers and anything else I could lay my hands on :-)

    Always amazes me when people freak out over 3c or so of a jump. Over a week for me, that's €1 to €2. You'd lose more down the back of the seats!

    Yes, this is most likely the reason

    Why fuel is priced by the dollar is beyond me.

    Oil on the international markets is bought and sold in dollars because that's the no. 1 international currency.

    Yes... of course diesel and petrol is priced in euros by the time it gets to us.

    What caused the price of petrol and diesel to fall over the past few months was the price in dollars of a barrel of crude oil falling so heavily.

    However due to deflation in Europe, the ECB has begun QE, basically printing money, with the intention (and effect) of driving down the euro against other currencies. This makes our exports to outside the eurozone more competitive, but on the flipside makes imported goods (e.g. oil, priced in dollars) more expensive. This is why petrol and diesel will likely move up somewhat in price now.
