Corrib vs getting a house (1st year)

Anyone who has went to NUIG and stayed in corrib for their first year, would you recommend it? Myself and 3 close friends are intending to go to Galway come September if all goes well, however there's just one problem, some of us want to go to Corrib and others want to get a house with the four of us. The obvious advantage with a house being that you have your own house to do with what you wish and you know you aren't going to get shacked up with someone who will wreck your head but on the other hand I've heard so many good stories about Corrib and how it is a great way to meet new people. Whereas living in your own house somewhere in the city will make it harder to mix with fellow first years etc. What do you think?

I'm staying in Corrib this year and tbh it's far too strict. Also it's about 10 min from the Arts building and about 20 min from Eyre Square which means you will need a taxi at night to go into town. You also can't bring anyone back (if that's what your after) as there is security at the gate and ask for your Corrib ID to get in. They require payment in one or two lump sums. On the plus side it is very easy to get to know people in Corrib and even easier if your big into partying and it is convienient if you don't know your way around Galway.

I know a few of my friends who rented houses and considering there will be four of you your better off with private accom. Chances are you will be living beside other students and you easily make friends in classes regardless of the sizes, so don't let that scare you. You also pay rent on a running bases. On the opposite side of this if you are unfamiliar with Galway its easy to get lost depending on your house. Buses usually run by the college from most, if not all, areas of Galway. If you have anyother questions feel free to ask.

N.B. This is my opinions based on my experience. Other people may have had other experiences so hopefully other ppl will reply.

    Good Luck!

Thanks a lot! I've been talking to a few people I know who are in corrib as well and they said a house would probably be the best option too given there's four of us so I think that's what we'll go for, cheers anyway!
