    Hi All;
    The better half just got tickets for the highclere castle tour (castle, garden etc) and I just wanted to ask if anyone has been before and what the are the best travel/accommodation options.
    Would prefer to take the ferry and stay somewhere close-by

    Any recommendations would be great

    The nearest town is Newbury, which has a lot of hotels due to Vodafone having their HQ there. I would expect these to be fairly quiet at the weekend.

    There are a variety of hotels, ranging from the top end places like Newbury Manor and The Vineyard, to a travel lodge at chievely.

    The nearest hotel to highclere is probably the Hilton Newbury Centre and is, well, a Hilton so of a decent standard. there is a JD Wetherspoon hotel in Newbury. I've no idea what it is like, but it is pretty central if you want to pop out for a meal in the evening.

    Train to where, Newbury?

    If so, make sure you get the Bedwyn train, it is much quicker.

    Check www.nationalrail.co.uk for train times. The boards at Paddington will show the destination.
