How to treat chassis to prevent further rust?

    Hi all,

Picked up a decent enough 94 Daihatsu Sportrak lately and I'm hoping to get it tested for the the road. Cute little thing. Bit of rust on the chassis, it's off getting a small section welded at the moment in fact, but not too much. I'd like to try and treat the whole thing, and maybe some of the running gear when it's done to try and slow the rot, what's the general procedure and products for this kind of thing? I'm not hugely experienced with motors but I'd like to give it a go, I think it's worth saving as she's not too bad all in all and there are so few of them around these days. Any advice appreciated.

The biggest problem you are up against is the chassis maybe rotting from the inside out like i have seen before. Is it a piece of leg or cross member that you are getting plated?

It's a section where rear crossmember meets box on one side. Sounds worse than it is though, the welder reckons he can tidy it up without too much trouble, we probably caught it early. I asked him about how to treat it, he didn't have much to tell me but one thing he did say was defo try and deal with the inside as well if taking the trouble to do it at all.

It's a tube crossmember that enters the side of the box.

Ive seen pajeros do similar rot, cut out the rot best you can and weld in new metal, need to give the chassis a right good wash inside and out and do rust prevention to stop it and preserve it.

Cool, what's the procedure though? Wire brush and waxoyl for the outside maybe? How to sort the inside?
