    Hi all,

what im am planning to do is place
Take up the old Rockwool and place down new ones on between the joist on top of that then place Chip board 20euro for 17.2mm legth in Woodies.

what i would like to know is would it be cheaper for me to place rockwool on the rafters then using Xtratherm Raterloc costing 10euro a sheet which would see me hitting around the 1k + mark just for the rafters.

also how can i use insulation on the soffits, would Aeroboards or foam pellets if you can buy them do the trick which would allow air to flow ?

Rafterloc is for the pitched roof not the rafters as such. Double insulate your attic by putting in 2 rolls of 150mm earthwool or isover g3. #Then put your osb or chipboard down over it.
You should go for a 2.4m x .6m x 18mm OSB3 board for around €11 or €12 a sheet from all good independent hardware merchants.
Woodies would be dear on most building products, where are you based maybe I can recommend someone?

http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057354829 have a look at this tread (1) no point in taking up old rockwool and replacing it with same depth insulation you need a min of 300mm of rockwool /fiber glass insulation in attic 150mm between joists and 150mm over joists. (2) if you are flooring area you need to raise the chipboard up by the 150mm that the insulation extends above existing joists this is done with either plastic legs or new joists run perpendicular to the existing joists . (3) rafterloc is used to insulate rafters ie. the sloped timber in your roof if you put the insulation there you do not insulate at ceiling level and you end up heating your attic . (4) a soffet is on the external wall of house it is the horizontal piece of timber underneath your gutters (which are attached to the fascia)
