Was just wondering if anyone knows of any good areas to hunt small game in ireland that's free to hunt?? A forest area would be perfect as I would love to camp out for a couple of days and do some hunting and fishing, like a survival type thing. I'm a member of a gun club and have insurance but have hunted my area to death. Any information would be great!!

Not sure if it's a good idea to be out camping with a gun mate. Don't know if it's even legal but anything could happen if your out camping. Suppose someone was to walk up on you whilst you sleep and take the gun or even attempt it. Could be a sticky situation then.

As a member of a gun club who hunts you should be well aware of the fact that there is no free hunting land in Ireland. All land here is either privately owned or state controled. You will require permisson to hunt either, remember vast tracks of state land that have public access have strict regulations as to what a member of public can do there such as hunting, fishing, rights of way, fires, camping, biking, horse riding and even ball games!!!!!

I understand that but I'm talking middle of knowhere type area I know I could head off into a Forrest or mountain area and just hunt but I don't want to pouch anywhere hence why I asked this question

Have you all the vermin hunted out of your area? You should never hunt ground to death or will end looking for more ground to hunt to death. It's about sustainability not hunting to the point of extension!

So you've now gone from 'middle of knowhere type area' to a highly trafficked area populated with walkers, fishermen, canoeists, farmers etc. such as the banks of the Boyne river. By the way from my own shooting experience a lot of the surrounding areas are gun club lands or local fisheries.
For your own sake you should really get in touch with your club members and they should be able to help you.
