Hey lads just posting on how my season went got 2birds over the dog last year, this year there was 19 shot over him ,I spent all of last season trying to retrain him ,we had good days and a lot of frustrating days but this year he was firing on all cylinders from day one and got better(cuter)as the season went on , I'd be confident bringing him anywhere with anyone that's how much he's come on ..anyway that was the best part of my season can't wait for next year already......what was your best highlights lads? Would have to say a combination of new friends, new ground, new dogs and now this littler of pointers.
Couple of white pheasants to go to the taxidermist, a few top class retrieves from Molly and watching a dog dive under water for the first time.

    Not a bad Aul season

Have to say how well the birds bred and held this year, also my duck ponds did a great job, so each trip always had something in the bag. Some great hunts with the dog and witnessed some really astounding shooting by my mates. Red letter season for me I think!

Did you release pheasants mallards? I've 15 cocks ready to release in the next few weeks in a area that has no pheasants so hopefully things will pick up for next season....what ya think?

I released about one hundred in the summer, returns have been at 52%. So for me it's been a great year and there's still lots of birds on the ground. Good luck on the release. Good habitat, feeding and vermin control is the key to success. Make sure you have feed especially at this time of year when the wild food is scarce for them. Just try changing little things each year until you work out what's best for the birds and you'll have great spot for the pheasants. Good luck!

Highlight for me was first double woodcock (easy double though) caught it on video.
Another highlight for me was a retrieve that my lab did on a winged pheasant, she put him up on the other side of a ditch. The pheasant flew over , I shot and only winged.
Pheasant landed and ran, at this stage she had another cock in the air, we had no shot. So I got her to my side of the hedge. The pheasant had a good 2 to 3 minutes head start.
I got her on the trail, at least 10 minutes later she came back with the pheasant. :)

Highlight for me was the final day, Love shooting on a Saturday for some reason anyway but the last day was truly my highlight.. Dog was mad on sent and pointed solid just before the end of the ditch.. Sent him on in and out came a lovely pheasant , nice high shot.. Then seconds later a dog fox bolted from the same area as the cock and he got hit with the second barrel ! Still chuffed over it :D
