Hey everyone. Looking for some advice for a family holiday to the algarve in June. Myself and my gf have never been to portugal, just thought we'd go for a change. We have 2 kids. 1 1/2 year old and 3 year old. Need some advice on best place to go. Apartments/ resorts. Maybe even book a small villa. Somewhere not mad but not too out of the way. Has to have something to keep the kids entertained during the day. Cheers lads

If you want a busy resort then Praia de Rocha is probably the busiest, Montechero/Albuferia after that. I prefer somewhere quieter so have stayed around Alvor the last couple of times. We got an apartment from Owners Direct but the owner sold it 2 years ago. Plenty of options available around Algarve to suit anyone.

We went to Portimao last August for 10 days. We stayed in the Club Praia Do Vau.
The hotel was a couple of miles from Praia Da Rocha and about the same from Alvor. Only about €6-8 in a taxi which were plentiful (when ordered by reception at hotel or in taxi ranks)
the area was nice and quiet as it was outside the town.
However, it was a bit of a trek for a 5yo back from the beach (15/20 mins uphill walk) until we found a shortcut through the Jardim Do Vau hotel.
If i was to go back I would stay here. it looked nice from the outside but you are right on the beach so not much walking, especially with kids who want to be carried...uphill...20mins....in that heat :)

it gets really hot during the day and pretty chilly in the evening so bring suitable attire for both. not being a great fan of the heat, i did prefer this to Turkey (25 degrees at night)

My self and my boyfriend went to Albufeira and stayed in the cerro Mar Atlantico apartments they were amazing at the top of a hill overlooking the old town with sea views it was one of the best places I have ever stayed.

Albufeira was a great resort plenty of lovely restaurants with great food.

Bar Street was great fun a small cobblestone Avenue lined with pubs and disco bars...

There was also a shopping center a short taxi drive away with the usual big brands...

All in all we had a great holiday and I would return.

This year we have decided to try stalis Crete for something a bit different.
