I am thinking of getting one of these for working from home and the odd meeting. I have a decent dell laptop but it weighs a lot and also is quite big so cumbersome for transport.

Most of my important work is done in office hours with a tablet and phone working ok for the weekend however as the business has grown the complexity of the back end of our website has also making some tasks on the smaller touchscreens very irritating.

So I was wondering about the Chromebook? They look pretty light, sleek, compact and cheap! Will also need to be able to view PDF'S and Word documents but the heavy lifting with excel etc can usually be left to the morning.

Chromebooks are great if all you need is internet access and basic word, powerpoint and excel use. These programs are not going to have all the bells and whistles of a fully Microsoft Office package.

    www.google.co.uk/docs/about/

Go there and have a play around, this is essentially what you will have in terms of office capabilities on a chromebook.

They have advantages, they are cheap, light and generally have great battery life (don't get one that doesn't...). But they are not full computers just yet.

Picked one up during the week. Perfect for my needs and not offensive on the eye either. Highly recommended if you just need and general browsing machine and don't / can't stomach more than 5 to 10 minutes typing on a tablet. V light also which might be a consideration.
