Went to see Kingsmen last night and heard they cut out a lot to get a 16 cert.

I cant remember ever going to see an 18 cert film and generally groan when I see a 12 or 12A for superhero etc films

Is there a list or do people have an idea what films got an 18 cert here?

There's two in the near future (The Duke of Burgandy and Everly) coming out but I'd imagine they're limited release. Studios don't like them and will often impose cuts to ensure a lower rating.

It's not so much the content that warrants an 18 cert, more how that content is depicted. Generally IFCO tend to be fairly on the ball with ratings and often seem to be a bit more lenient than the BBFC.

Gone Girl and Wolf of Wall Street were maybe the most famous of 18 rated movies in the past year.

It's also important to remember that a lot of films cut down from 18 to 15 can retain all the violence and gain a lower rating simply removing use of the word cunt. For some reason the censors in the UK find that word far more offensive than gratuitous violence.

I also think that when a lot of people talk of the 18 cert they fail to realise that were many of the classic 18 cert films from yesteryear to be submitted now they would receive a lower rating. A lot of 15-PG films in recent memory, Olympus Has Fallen and The Last Stand are just as violent, if not more so than a lot of older 80s fare.

The paucity of 18 cert films is a direct consequence of budgets running out of control, Hollywood simply can't afford to cut out a significant chunk of the Friday/Saturday night crowd.

This is true. I seem to remember Rambo (First Blood 2) got an 18 cert back in the day. It's a bloody cartoon.

I know the Raid 2 and Maps to the Stars got 18's. e_e I thought Gone Girl was 16?

Damn and it's 15 on DVD too, that's surprising. Only really based on one scene but of course the mix of
    sex and bloody violence
is a huge red flag for the BBFC.

16 is such a Mickey Mouse certificate though. It's like "yeah we can't possibly remove the A from 15A to turn kids away so here's a new rating!"

There are people out there who seem to believe the original Halloween would be a 12A /PG13 today.

    Watching it now, VERY interesting.

Always just took the unrated or directors cut as a gimmick to sell the DVDS(kinda suppose it is) and maybe had a few minutes more footage and that's it

Shame they cant have two versions and then have to show ID to see them, they do it for iSense/3D(minus ID of course)

BBFC doesn't have a 16 age limit, only Ireland. Ireland and Britain are the on distribution region so the film cut is the same here as there. Unless you mean it was cut to get a 15 BBFC. I am not aware of an international film being cut specifically for the IFCO.

Saw Taken 3 recently where there is a scene with 'F' word but is dubbed with some other word though you see the actor mouth f**k. Another scene shows a half naked actor after being shot in the torse several times yet there is not a droo of blood. Looks silly. Guns aren't violent but blood is, that is the MPAA for you.

So did Gone Girl have the use of the word "cúnt" included when it was shown in the cinemas here? And I wonder if they would've cut it from The Interview

I never understood how Americans made such a big deal out of the word cúnt when they continue flippantly using 'pussy' and other slang for the vagina, good to see it's being used in American movies more though, should help them get the fuk over it

I think it did. I'm sure I remember hearing it when watching.

Lethal Weapon 2 had some small cuts made to get a theatrical 15 age limit (Gibson squishes someone's head in a car door). This censored versionsm was submitted for VHS cert and got an 18.

The uncensored cut aired on TV at some point and then when all four films were re-released on blu-ray Lethal 2 got a 15 including the head-in-door-squishing. Lethal 4 was heavily butchered and released uncut on BD
