New to the world of pc gaming other than the obvious civ/footie manager,
Been playing some elite dangerous but fancy something different, what should I be looking at, arma3, dayz, counter strike?

try some of the free 2 play stuff on steam, some of it is really good

I'd highly recommend 'war thunder' if ye need a break from elite

    Addicted to War Thunder too.

    But other mentions:

    X Com Enemy Unknown
    Company of Heroes
    Shogun 2 Total War
    Faster Than Light

    and that's just strategy

Spec Ops: The Line well worth a look

Give us an idea what you're in to.

Have played war Thunder on ps4 it's great, Xcom, Tropico 4 on my laptop, enjoyed both
Played a little league of Legends didn't really do it for me,
I do like strategy type games, mining and building, big call of duty fan except this year, enjoy battlefield, played skyrim to death on ps3,
Indies don't really do it for me either unfortunately,

You can always mess around in Space Engineers. Me and the lads rented out server and it is a great laugh.

Borderlands series (maybe skip the pre-sequel)

As your sort of new to Pc gaming you should try out some of the games that are PC only and take advantage of the extra power. ARMA 3 is pretty incredible in it's scope, I only installed it recently and it's shocking how detailed it is.

Try some indie games to, they can be great fun and have an atmosphere that console games just don't do anymore.

You've played Skyrim to death, but not a modded Skyrim. Also reccomend Morrowind and Postal 2 if you enjoy stupid over the top violence

    Strategy with mining and building...

    hmmm....

Rimworld's a nice Indie project at the moment with all 3 of these concepts.
Prison Architect is another, minus the mining part.
Terraria/Starbound. Played the former a good bit and pretty enjoyable with or without friends.

If your more into TRIPLE As, there's not much in that genre.

I thought this about DOTA2 when I first played it, all I needed was a bit of tutoring and now it's my most played game, 4 hours or so a night.

Meow, here we have an issue. Elite: Dangerous is an indie title since it was done without the help of a publisher. I think you have a simple misunderstanding of what indie means.

Not sure i would totally agree with that opinion, would you call frontier developments indie? I guess it depends on your interpretation of indie really,

An Indie developer is a developer that is not funded by a publisher. EA and Activision are publishers, for example. They fund studios like DICE and Sledgehammer.

Frontier are crowd funded and so don't require a publisher to fund them, and so get complete creative control.

Portal and Portal 2 I don't believe were mentioned either, and Garry's Mod.

Played Portal 2 Co-op last night with a friend and honestly haven't laughed so much while playing a game in years (probably because it was 3 in the morning, we were both wrecked and we started on the art therapy section, ha).

Team Fortress 2 is good fun too. Just started getting into Dota 2 myself with my friend showing me the ropes.

I've put quite a few hours into Crossfire Europe too. It has some lag issues and the occasional hacker, but it's a decent game overall. It's being slaughtered in Steam reviews though as it's basically a free Counter Strike 1.6 clone.

Have a look through the Free to Play section on Steam and see what catches your eye. Keep an eye on Origin too. They give away free games every once in a while.

I would 2nd dayz. Also if you like shooters a very nice realistic one is insurgency. For older games maybe try the mass effect series.

the main sites you will need are

Allkeyshop a cd-key comparison site which I find is better than dlcompare but use both anyway, never buy from the ones that have the Russian flag on them as you will need to use a vpn and that can get your Steam account banned

istheranydeal it's a comparison site for the regular sites

this sub Reddit is also very handy so keep an eye on it

there are loads of bundle sites that will give you cheap steam games for a few euro, the main ones are

    Indiegala
    Humble Bundle
    Groupees
    Bundlestars
    Indie Royale

but you can just check here to see what bundles are current

Kerbal and Arma (3 i hope). These will keep you busy for a looooong looong time.

I'd suggest pacing yourself, as the other games ain't going anywhere and will get ALOT cheaper (especially during sales!).

I'm currently playing..... 7 -8 games and, honestly, when i sit down and think what to play, it's like work! :pac:

I'd give anything to get that feeling of the first 3 months of wow again. While I still love the game, and am still playing ten years on, it was truly mind blowing when I first played it.
