Advice on a new laptop

I dont like laptops direct, but I think people generally find them okay.

The Black Asus laptop is a good laptop for the price. However it is large, heavy and doesn't have a good battery life. These are things which would make me look elsewhere as for me a laptop should be portable, light and have a long battery life. But this may not be important to you.

I got a Sony laptop for Christmas 2013 and I love it! I'd have to check when I go home to be certain but I'm pretty sure it's Sony Vaio 15E Touch. It's a white one with no number keypad to make it more portable, and it has a touchscreen, so E15 seems to be right.

I don't know how much it was as it was a gift but my parents wouldn't be ones to spend crazy money on anything. I remember looking at laptops between €500 and €600 and they said this was cheaper than the ones we'd seen in shops. Having said that it could've been a display model to be so cheap.

I wouldn't know much about the specs of laptops or what's the new thing to be looking for but this has been so reliable. I'm usually lusting after something new within months but I'm 100% happy with this laptop and think I easily will be for at least a couple more years. The only problem I had was the bluetooth stopped working after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 which seems to be a common problem but I rarely used it anyway.

Another thing to mention is that I rarely use the touch screen so if you can find a cheaper model without this then I'd say go ahead. One thing I love about it is the backlit keyboard for typing at night. And it's a lovely laptop to type on, don't know if that matters to you.

I hope this was of some help, if not then apologies for the rambling :)

Sony have stopped making laptops but they are still available to buy from some retailers. Currys have them for €600 but I'm sure you could buy them cheaper than that. Unless the cease of manufacturing has driven the price up, which I doubt.
