Wedding Venue Search

    Hi everyone,

My OH and I are in the early stages of planning our wedding. At the moment we are trying to find a venue and I am hoping maybe some of you out there with experience can provide some advice/help.

The location, as in County is not important, we are open to anywhere really but it is seemly our budget (of course) that is making finding one difficult. We would like to have a small wedding (no more than 50 guests), somewhere relaxed and slightly off beat. Food wise we have no preference over a sit down structured meal or buffet or BBQ, but are swaying towards a more casual option. Our budget unfortunately for the venue and food won"t stretch past €1600. So right now we are trying to see if getting married for so little is even possible.

Any alternative ideas are seriously welcome. We need some suggestions from outside the box on this one I think.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

    Thanks in advance :P

Well that's a head scratcher. How about a restaurant somewhere on a weekday? 32 euro a head, it is probably do able

Or you could rent a hall somewhere and have a buffet.

The hall idea is something we had thought of alright, mind you it seems more common in the UK/US to rent halls. I had a look before but struggled to get any clear indication of what is available.

A restaurant also sounds ok. We did look at Jacks Restaurant in Kerry, but the cost is too much for us unfortunately.

I know you said county doesn't matter, but there are costs involved with travel. What general area might suit?

How about Sammy's on Inch beach? Phone them up and tell them your budget. I am sure they might be interested outside peak season. Food is good there too. It would be a stunning spot for one.

Fits I am actually from that area (not currently living there though! It is on the list but in truth we actually are not that fused by the food.

Location really is not an issue. The guest will literally be travelling from all four corners, and due to certain circumstances we could be living anywhere from Galway to Cork come the end of the year.

    .

Hmm for 32 euro a head I don't think you are going to get amazing food. Down to earth dishes done well might be the best you can hope for. A BBQ, pig on spit thing might work well.

My cousin had a relaxed bbq spit type meal. My dad is still raving about it, said it was the best wedding food he's ever had in his life.

The BBQ (pig on a spit) is something we would love.

I do realise our budget makes things very difficult ans that it means we can not be picky about certain things. The food is important thought, to me anyway. It simply might be a case that we have to wait until there is more room in the pocket but I thought it might be worth searching first :D

Would you look at local GAA clubhoouses or community centres? With your numbers you would easily fit into one.

Pig on a spit from adare farm starts at €650 http://www.adarefarm.ie/catering_packages

Some creative day and you can decorate a hall very prettily.

    Here's one I found with a quick Google http://www.stannesgaa.com/contentPage/123778/n_e_w_f_u_n_c_t_i_o_n_r_o_o_m

My brother went to a small wedding in www.bunrattymanor.ie he said it was brilliant but I Don know costs etc. Galway Oslo bar & their sister pubs do reasonable weddings. Great food, world beers, dance floor, salthill, whats not to like :-)

If food is a thing for you, I wouldn't even worry about Jacks, made a trip down there and was very disappointed with the food.. But anywho with the GAA clubs I would think maybe just ring around or try call in when a match is there to see if you could nad someone who knows about the club I know in Cork they would rent them out for functions.. That or a lot of churches have club house that they rent out..

I know there is a cricket club in cork that rent their club.

Could try also a place like a glamping site, that is what we originally had in mind. Tea Pot lane or someplace in Killarney

Then your back to the restaurants.... what kind of place would ye like it might narrow things down

Thanks everyone for the suggestions :D

Milly33; In an ideal world we were thinking of a large house, a country house maybe or a barn, we looked at marquees too but they are out of our price rang for now. A GAA hall may work, so some research needs to be done on that.

The only place we have really considered is Three Towers in Galway, but that does go beyond our budget. Thankfully we aren't under any pressure so nothing will be finalised until it feels right.

Id take a look at the glamping sites then you might be pleasantly surprised.

Two places I just though of there was Hotel Doolin, they might be able to do something for you and another place we looked into having it there but they never came back to the my emails. I got in contact with them then on facebook but it was too late for us we already found the spot.So either ring or facebook them The Quality hotel youghal it is down by the beach.

just thought of barn places there. You could try Corbett court also the one on the main road to Tipperary is the nicest one

I'd be wary of halls & venue but not catering rentals generally.
You may find that the furniture rental & decor costs add up to another E10 - E20 a head.

I'd look for pubs with big function rooms that are used to handling parties. Many pubs are well used to catering those numbers and will do a great job at those prices. Some that might suit in Dublin, though I've admittedly no idea about food quality or prices except what's on their website - The Goat, The Odeon, The Harbourmaster, The Halfway House, McGrattans . . .

This place looks fabulous, I'd love it but dp wants Dublin location. I'd strongly advise you to ring them with your budget & see what they say. It even says on their site they are willing to wor with budgets. You might be surprised :-)
