Best generation for music has to be the 80s, stick on the power ballads and turn the volume up.

Now is the best time for music, you've got access to all the music from all the past eras with more ease than ever.

I'm guessing you're under the age of 40 as you clearly didn;t live in the 70s.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I'm going to go with 80's early 90's. I like a lot of types but all this gangster rap autotuned rubbish doesn't appeal to me. Lately i'm listening to music to chill to.

When it comes to music, I'd pick the 90's. Although I do like the 80's too.

Just look at some at some of the stuff that was big in the 90's:
Nirvana, Radiohead, Pavement, Rage Against The Machine, Oasis, Neutral Milk Hotel, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Manic Street Preachers, The Notorious B.I.G., The Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, Nas, 2Pac, The Wu-Tang Clan, The Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, Jeff Buckley, Aphex Twin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Spiritualized, The Verve

What we have at our fingertips today is frickin' amazing, but it does come pretty easy & seems a little less precious and dare I say almost disposable as a result.

    No.

I don't have a memory of the 80s as I was about 18 months old when the decade ended. 90s was my growing up decade, I came of age in the noughties, a decade sorely lacking when it came to music imo. The majority of stuff I listen to is 20th century. 60s,70s, 80s, 90s.

80s were my teenage years, saw a lot of big acts live; Springsteen, Jackson, U2, simple minds (people now might not appreciate how many thought simple minds were going to bigger than U2!)
    But......I prefer the 90s stuff!

Lots of great music in the 80's but the 90's just had a ridiculous amount of amazing music, probably the last great era in popular music.

    Glazers Out!

I was a teen in the 90s and I still think the music was fantastic. So many great bands. But funnily enough it's usually 80s stuff I go for first now.

What I don't about the 90s was how **** radio was whereas in the 80s what was popular was played. Mid 90s radio just descended into electronic dance fest.

Not able to vote as there is no option for 60s or 70s. The 50s music was rubbish but 60s and early 70s were excellent. I can only assume the OP is blinded by youth.

I'd agree, and I'm one of those weirdos who still buys CDs, but I'd still say that the access we have to music now is a good thing. Not only that but our options to listen to it are far greater than before. As a kid I had a CD walkman, I'd pick one album and that'd be my soundtrack for the day, now I've got a load of music on my phone. We've also got an amazing ability to find new music at our fingertips.

I love both decades musically but I have to go with the 90's. Any decade that gave us Portishead and Massive Attack has to be the greatest.

Lots of good stuff from both but the cheesy 80's stuff was better than any of the cheesy 90's stuff.

    90s easily...

Hate 80s music in general, was the introduction of electronic music... /shudders

While i like the smith's, stone roses, guns and roses and a few other bands the 90's was far better unless your big into power ballads. Id consider the 80's as a poor decade for music overall but the 90's rocked.

I was a teenager in the 90s and I think most 90s music was appalling.

    Grunge, Nu-Metal and Pop-Punk :(

For me, it's all about the '80s. Belinda Carlisle, Taylor Dane, Madonna (the Immaculate Collection), Michael Jackson, REO Speedwagon. Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac, Wham!, Heart. All my favourites.

I would not have thought being an '80s fan made one "blinded by youth"

But I can see your point about the 50s, Elvis only came on the scene in the late 50s, everything before Elvis was musical pre-history as far as I am concerned.

The 70s disco era was pretty good too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,376 ✭✭✭The_Captain

Ray Charles, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Chuck Berry

I couldn't even name a song by half those 80s people

Fleetwood Mac actually originated on the 60s and their most famous album "rumours" was released in 77'

Late 70's to late 80's yes there was a lot of dross but it's when punk and electronic music arrived but before auto-tune.

BBC 4 are doing Top of the Pops from 25 years ago. Lots of stuff I'd forgotten.

Electronic music was around long before the 80's.

Electronic music before the 80's was amazing with artists like Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk. However there was a lot of terrible electronic music made in the 80's when a lot of mainstream artists started adopting electronic instrumentation in the worst ways possible. It wasn't until house and techno started gaining momentum in the latter part of the decade that electronic music became cutting-edge and interesting again.
