Hoping you fine gents can help out (Mods please move to Net and comms if more suited). Installed a new horizon box today but cannot connect to internet currently.

Setup is LAN to LAN connection between Hzn box and Archer C7. Nat, DCHP have been disabled on C7 and it has been assigned a manual address of 192.168.192.254 (outside DCHP range of Hzn box).

Have been assigned a valid WAN address on the Hzn box.

DCHP appears to be working correctly.

    Wan IP assigned 89.100.XXX.XXX.

    Lan settings router:
    IP Address: 192.168.192.1
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    DHCP Server: Enabled
    Starting Local Address: 192.168.192.2
    DHCP Pool Size: 64
    DNS Server1: 192.168.192.1
    DNS Server: 0.0.0.0

Can ping WanIP and www.google.ie (74.125.24.94) from router admin.

    Router admin ping

Also same on Ethernet connected PC (via Homeplugs).

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 18ms, Maximum = 137ms, Average = 76ms

Similar results when directly connected via ethernet to back of Hzn box so I think I can rule out Wifi second router issues.

Can't think of anything I am overlooking but it looks like for some reason the Hzn box won't let any traffic out for some reason.

Any suggestions most gratefully recieved, let me know if there is any useful info I am leaving out

You haven't mentioned how you connect to C7, i.e lan to wan or lan to lan.

Sorry thought I did its lan to lan although in the above example I was connecting directly to the upc box via its own wifi

To rule out DNS problem try pinging 74.125.24.94

Getting destination port unreachable on the ip only ping.
Can ping wan ip of router funnily enough.

Don't have horizon but can you go to "HOME NETWORK", "NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS" on the box?

Yep wan ip there as per above some Docsis status operational. Anything else I should be looking at?

More like a configuration problem on your laptop. Go into adapter config and double check settings. Try disable/enable your laptop lan port.

Ta so far will have a check of the adapter in the morning gonna have a few beers and watch a movie. Very puzzled I must say. Have tried a laptop, pc, android tablet, android phone and window phone all with the same symptoms, ip assigned no problem but no internet.

Possible that UPC haven't provisioned the box yet if was a self install.

I was thinking it might well be the case, I was onto them about 4 today and was told it had been activated, but to me the only explaination that makes sense is some problem on their end

Can you connect to something on HTTPS?

UPC in the Netherlands do this if you haven't paid your bill for example but leave HTTPS unblocked for some reason.

I'll give https a try later, rang upc this morning and everything looks ok on their end but they are pushing through a factory reset at the moment on the router so i'll start again from scratch.

@degsie checked connection and lan settings and all dns/ip settings etc look ok and are set to automatic for ip4/6

    Still no joy after reset.

More testing on laptop nslookup is able to resolve dns addresses so can rule that one out.

tracert to the google address as per op falls over at the first hop 192.168.192.1 with a timeout/ "destination protocol unreachable" message. The traceroute on the router admin UI to same still suceeds perfectly.

Does everything work with just the horizon box? Or is it no traffic with that alone?

If the horizon has a DMZ option Id go that route.

Theres nothing else in play at the moment except the horizon box itself, same result wired directly into the back or inbuilt wireless.

No advanced router setting at all on the horizon box really just extremely basic lan settings and wireless configuration.

Sounds like the default routes are missing from the horizon box. Weird.

We've always known they were **** boxes but never this bad. I'd get UPC to give you a standalone unit tomorrow.

Ay it does look like it has to be something bizzare like that alright, at least can be fairly confident now that I am not doing anything silly on my end :o.

Have raised an issue on the UPC forum so hopefully they can sort it tommorrow.

Thanks to everyone for all suggestion/assistance on this thread.

Don't know if it's already mentioned but a factory reset might be worth a try.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 10,093 Mod ✭✭✭✭marco_polo

Had tried a few resets with no joy the good folk in the UPC forum sorted it out anyways, turns out something in my broadband account hadn't been setup correctly. Don't know why it wasn't spotted over the phone at the weekend but anyway working now so thats all that matters.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the exact same issues with a horizon box I got today. Its like the route table on the router is broken/missing. I have tried a factory reset, changing the lan settings on the box.
Horizon box can reach the internet via the internal ping tool/trace route. I can connect to the box via WiFi and lan, just doesn't route me to the internet. I can ping the external IP address of the router but that's as far as I can get.

Scrap that, it just started working after an hour.
