I miss my BX - so much character. Hydropneumatic suspension gives trouble as they get older though - prone to leaks. The GTi would be the one to have though, in red.

The Tzd diesels were excellent units too.

My Dad had a 1992 TZD 19 BX

I used to love getting dropped off at Primary School in it, all my class thought it was such a cool car!

It was 5 years old at the time and was more of a talking point than a brand New 1997 Mercedes S Class that my friends Dad had!

My dad had a 16 Valve GTI. Black with the black wheels. Very very cool car back in the day :cool:

Not it but just like it AFAIR

    Loving the BX talk
I saw the diesel one for sale, and am having great difficulty upholding my new years resolution of no new cars until my trip to the US in October is paid for.

Designed by Marcello Gandini when he worked for Bertone he also designed this ..

I had a dark grey gti. Loved it. Drove it back and forth to the south of France a few times. It flew as well but was a thirsty beast. After a phase of Alfa romeos I'm back to Citroen again.

I think at one stage it had 30% of the diesel car market in the uk?

A genuinely different car. Think it only weighed 900kg and seemed so futuristic at the time.

I must get my BX out of the shed. I haven't driven it in a few weeks now since I seeviced it. Lovely soft and relaxing car to drive.

Mine is a petrol BX16 which I'm told is rare enough.

Man I fooking love Bx's. First car I ever drove. Love the character of old french cars. So want a GTI BX.

Anyone at the NEC classic car show in Nov? A fella had a BX GTI he'd just finished restoring. Was one of my cars of the show

I remember a schoolmates dad had a facelift BX, 92ish. Amazing that it was a decade old design at that stage but wouldn't have been obviously outdated. Things have changed!

Some cars have it others don't. I always think the original 1996 Rover 200 all the way through its different facelifted still looks good.

I always think of alan partridge when someone mentions a rover 200. They did a great job with the MG ZR, silk purse from sows ear sort of thing :)

I ran a red 17 RD with no spec to speak of including lacking power steering it put hairs on ones arms!

The turbo diesels were the business however, really swift when overtaking.

Did they ever sell the 1.1 petrol in Ireland?

This BX is still in use in Cork with NCT until April 2015!

Holy thread revival. I've taken my BX out of its slumber in the shed and pushed it into full time service. it covered 150miles today faultlessly including easily keeping up with motorway traffic for 100 of those. It's bloody comfortable too and the auto box really helps it attain that comfort level it aspires too. Anyway I'll keep this updated over the next while as its being used.

Sorry about the poor pic it's all I had time for. And it's a 91 BX16 TGS if anyone is interested

    Awesome, love those wheel trims.

Must get my 405 on the road soon. You really can't beat early 90s French stuff for comfort.

I was expecting issues but although the seats are soft and squishy they gave good support. It's a totally different beast to the Alfa in terms of ride

Add to that an AX, xantia, XM and a C5.

    All decent cars to drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

I'd love an XM tbh, or an early Xantia. Or push me hard and I'd have a ZX Volcano. I really liked those wedge shaped Citroens. They were everywhere as I was growing up

Yes a pal of my dad had an XM from new, as comfortable a car as you would ever drive. About 2 years ago it was written off when he was shunted big-time from behind. I think he got a small 3-figures sum from the insurance company, it was tragic.

A neighbour got one back in 1991, silver in colour. I still remember how futuristic looking it was. Mind you it didn't look great the morning I went out to see they got T-boned pulling out of their driveway into the part of a Sierra Sapphire. A week later their C15 van bit the dust when the brakes failed at a junction.

The XM was replaced with a lovely 405 estate and the van with a Hiace.

This car has been doing a massive service to my back. The suspension is GREAT at going over speed bumps without any issue. It's running better and better everyday and touch wood this continues. I'm loving it the more I drive it. It's surprisingly getting a lot of attention from people. I had assumed it was too new for that.

Attached are pictures of the car including the ride height at 3 different settings

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

It might be a bit new but it has an undeniable classic look about it.

    Looking great.

    What?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,252 ✭✭✭Dia1988

    What?

SORN = declared off road in the UK

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

I trust your other car is taxed too, ba.

Jesus what a question to ask someone hahaha

    Calm down! Calm down!

No where did I mention why it doesn't have tax!

I just wanted to find out the year of it and in doing so I noticed it was still declared SORN.

I wanted to know if there was something wrong with it or if there is something still wrong with it!

It's a well kept BX and I appreciate it on the road........Cough****with or without Tax***Cough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

    This is simple.

The car is still on SORN as it's used mostly on UK roads during the summer, or it will be, when I'm up north.

The car is currently out for a week or two for reasons which don't concern you but which I've posted about before. If you REALLY want to know what they are you can go back through my recent posts.

No major tax dodge going on. And my everyday car is taxed.

If anyone else wants to question the paperwork I can confirm its properly registered at my UK residence, fully motd and correctly insured.

As people had discussed the Citroen BX recently I thought some would appreciate a bland effort at a road story while I had it out.

The seats in the BX did my back in - I'm tall and the lower back "hollow" in the seat was murder.

I suffer a lot with lower back pain and I've not had an issue yet. I think the fact it's an auto may be helping matters however
