Don't have a breeze about computers. Laptop automatically updated to windows 8.1 and since then can't get a connection. It just says no connections are available, yet every other computer and phone etc are connected to the wi-fi and running fine? Is this a common problem when updating to windows 8.1 and anyone know what to do? Thanks

First check in Device Manager that the update didn't mess up the wireless card driver and the device is still working.

If it isn't then delete it and reboot. Windows will see it as a new device and install the driver.

If Device Manager shows the wireless card to be working then in Network and Connection settings delete the connection and reboot.

You should then be able to see your wireless connection in available connections and connect to it.

If you don't know how to access Device manager then use Windows Help.

I know it seems a very basic suggestion but is your wifi definitely turned on? Also have you tried connecting by ethernet just in case there is a firewall issue?
