Discount on Buying - include PCP?

Guys I'm looking at buying a new car and looking at various options.

If I walk in with no trade in I would expect a discount.

But what is the story if buying with PCP - do dealers offer a discount off the list price to entice you to buy or is it just the price and then apply the PCP.

Also if you were walking in with your own bank finance / cash what sort of discount would you be looking to achieve - is it a % or just knock 1-2k off the price.

If you are using HP from your bank does that effect the discount?

I'm looking at a higher end car about 40k

I went through this process today at bmw. How it worked with them is that we trashed out a price and then when I went to pay the deposit, they in effect asked 'how does sir wish to pay for it'.
The pcp rates were 9.5%! I passed.

If using dealer finance then remember that the dealer gets a commission from the bank for introducing a new customer to them. This should allow you to push the dealer further on the price.

Yes that's one of the reasons I've ruled out going near a BMW.

Looking at Lexus or Audi at 6.5 and 4.9 and trying to compare everything against a hp at 8.5. I'd also like to pay a bigger deposit but not really much point and going the Car loan route is approx 11% so no point.

That's whats forcing me down the PCp as no point buying with a large deposit.

But a bigger up front discount may change things

Pcp all have a max deposit of about 30% I think, but it sounds like you're well aware anyway

9.5% is very high I am on 1.9% and a VW CC is 0%.

Yeh, I asked if there were any pcp deals. They have a 4.5% one, but it's very specific and limited to certain models you wouldn't buy.
I looked at the CC, briefly, but the price rises v quickly for a decent spec.

Pity they didn't call it the CC right from the start too, instead of the Passat CC.
Stupid mistake given the fickle clientele for them, myself included

Sorry now I didn't enquire what % of people are paying by finance. I'd have thought it's 2/3s anyway?
