McElhinney out for Donegal and replaced by Hugh McFadden

Setanta doing a decent enough preview.

Good to have proper football back.

Looks like Donegal won't be changing their style a whole lot getting a rake of men into their own half

First score comes from a horror kickout by Durkan to give a goal chance to Derry that was put over for a point.

Very strong Donegal team...looks like they are going to take the league quite seriously.

    Fascinating game.

Some very decent score-taking on both sides.

McHale offering zero in the way of insight as a co-commentator.

Derry taking over here, should have a goal by now

Same defensive philosophy to the fore.

If there's been any tactical tweaking by Gallagher , it's of the super-subtle sort.

Gallagher in midfield having very little influence - really doesnt look fit.

Toye and McNiallias giving away 2 cheap frees there.

    Lynch kicking some lovely frees.

    Derry well in control now

The fact that Lynch is such a threat on frees from distance puts a major strain on the Donegal defence - would be interesting to see how many of the frees scored by Lynch were conceded by midfielders/forwards.

Great to see the ref blowing for off-the-ball fouls

The normal limit is the ref will only blow once a half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

Sean Leo McGoldrick is linking play up very nicely.

    What's Marty up to?:pac:

Well one thing is for sure, the fella on the sideline is making himself well heard!! Lynch is having a stormer, continuing last years league form. Surely they should put murphy on him?

    Interesting stuff

    Donegal 0-6 Derry 0-9 HT

Donegal 5 wides Derry 2 wides (and 1 dropped into the keeper's hands)

Donegal 3 points from frees, Derry with 4

Hard to see what he blew up for with the last donegal score. Great open game of football.

Yeah - the setanta replay didnt show much.

Wonder if it was for verbals?

It's hardly open - but I've been very impressed by the level of skills on display - especially in terms of point-taking.

Very few of the rusty diesel early season type mistakes you expect with very passes going astray and a decent quality of foot-passing on show. - there was one brain-freeze where a Derry player let a ball go over the sideline that he shouldn't have

i suppose open isnt the right word. Derry look a lot fitter the donegal.

Great start to 2nd half by Donegal. A very timely "injury" here now from Derry.

lights gone out at the Tyrone Monaghan game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

That was rather silly by Karl Lacey, bit of niggle coming into the game.

stupid mistakes allowing Derry back in here

He's got the potential to be an absolute terror weapon on the edge of the square.

Neil Gallagher doing a lot more in the 2nd half.

    Never a penalty imo.

    Great finish :D

Surely the full back should have been booked if a penalty was awarded. And i think he was on a yellow

    Great goal.

Didn't see the first half as I watched the other match but it's been an Exciting second half.

He definitely wast helped by Murphy's reaction.

Super cheap goal to give away. Where was the Derry defence gone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Lovely finish there, the advantage to Derry didn't really work out.

I don't think he looked for it too much, but I know what you mean. Unreal score from McBrearty. Is that McHale co-commentating? He's comically bad.

Best point of the match there

Clear to see the full 70 match fitness is not there with a lot of sloppy play the last few minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

fantastic score from Toye, himself & Gallagher have been brilliant at mf. Both looking amazingly fit for guys the wrong side of 30

They mentioned their experience on the commentary and it definitely looks like the lads were savvy enough to not shoot their bolt in the first half but knew enough to keep an adequate reserve.

Derry have got 3 points in the 2nd half while Donegal have gone 1-8

McHale was terrible alright,.. and what was with all the "wow" comments, as if he wasn't at a game before.
