Crash repair centre recommendation Dublin

A guy hit into the back of my Octavia earlier this morning. New bumper needed I think, its all banged in. Can anyone advice on a repair centre on the south side of dublin who can do a job on it for me? The guy who hit me was reasonable enough so going to get it done without going through the insurance.

    Thanks

Does anyone know anything about webbsautobody.com

They are just up the road from me in Bohernabreena. One of a few places I want to get quotes from come Monday.

Do yourself a favour and let your insurance know about the accident. You don't need to claim, but they do need to know. Often people deny liability when they see the cost of repair.

more often than not these 'reasonable enough guys' end up trying to screw you over, a knock at the bumper might look innocent but its worth seeing is there structural damage.

In this day and age i don't really trust anyone and irrespective of damage or how nice anyone is, i would just let insurance deal with it, its what you pay for.

I got pics and his insurance details also. I said to him straight I'm happy to let him pay the cash cost of the repair provided he wasn't going to mess about. If he acts the maggot I'll be going through his insurance for sure.

What will I tell the insurance exactly? Will they ask me for his policy number just in case or something? I never got hit before so I don't really know what I should be saying to them. Do I just say that guy is paying for the damage out of his own pocket?

Give them ALL the details. And tell them the guy wants to pay outside of insurance, so you are NOT making a claim at this time. You will still have to complete an accident report, which they send out to you. It's all standard stuff. You can let the guy know that you told your insurance company about the accident if you like, but you don't need to say anything to him. At the first sign of trouble, cut contact and claim through HIS insurance.

    Don't delay. Ring today.

Told the insurance there this morning thanks. I'll let the guy know when I get the repair quotes on Monday that I told my insurance as standard procedure of the incident.

Would I be write to ask him for the money up front for the repair with the writen quotations on hand? I don't really want to pay out of my own pocket first to get it fixed to have him turn his nose to the invoice. A that stage the car would be repaired and an insurance assessor couldn't verify the damage for themselves.

You don't have to get the car fixed. The other guy is liable for the damage caused and a reasonable cost of repair at a crash repair garage. If the quote is €1000, he, or his insurance are liable for this, whether you use the money for repairs, or not. Of course, I am not suggesting you take advantage of the situation. You are welcome to be compensated for the damage and you could choose to get it repaired at a garage for less if you find one.

Do not have any repairs undertaken until it's settled. The damage is the proof.

Just another question, I want to ideally leave my car into a centre for repair asap (within the week if possible). What happens if this guy tells me he can't get the money together for 3 weeks or something? What would a reasonable response be from me? I'll be dealing with him tomorrow evening after I get my quotes so we can settle it asap.

Honestly, if he didn't have it within a few days, I would just go through the insurance. It may seem harsh, but the reality is that if it were to take more than a few days to get the cash together, then you're doing him a favour by putting it through the insurance, because he simply doesn't have the money.

Make sure you get the car checked properly. And what are you doing while your car is being repaired? Do you have alternative transport? Insurance would give you a rental.

I have a secondary banger to get around in. I had three garages this morning give me estimates for the repair. All 3 quoted me over 1k for the repair work. Don't think the lad is gonna be too happy when he hears the quotes but there you go. It may be a case of going through the insurance I think.

have you gotten a quote yet Op?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭StereoSound

Quotes were between 1100 - 1200 for everything. Paint, materials, labour etc.

I'm in exectly the same boat. I got two quotes, one from Denneys and ones from Gerry McGuire. Both came highly recommended by friends in the trade. Will see now whether the chap pays up or I go through his insurance.

Did you try GVD AUTOS in Walkinstown? My 03 E200 is in there now, collecting tomorrow.

i bought it a week ago for half the price of the next cheapest E200 of the same year, because it had the following damage:

Rear bumper had a couple of large cracks just below the bootlid. You could see through the bigger crack to a totally bent crash bar. The boot was out of line by about 2mm.

I supplied the crash bar €70 from breakers.
To repair and respray the bumper, fit the crash bar and realing the boot it's costing €150. Total, €220.

I get lots of work done there on my cars, so I usually get a good price. I woukd expect to pay well over a grand anywhere else and I would expect to pay for a replacement bumper too.

I reckon I did very well, saving myself a fortune on what will now be a lovely motor, with a few months nct left on it.

The chap texted me last night and said he wants me to claim on his insurance now instead. Fair enough says I as €1200 looked a bit much for him anyways. Notified his insurance that I'm claiming there this morning, then within 2 hours they called me back to say they have arranged for me to bring my car to an AXA approved garage for tomorrow morning and I'm getting a courtesy car too. That was bloody quick I was expecting to wait 2 weeks before they'd touch the car. I'm happy with that but let's see what the quality of the repair job is like.

I never went there no. I went to a place in ballymount and another in Bohernabreena. They both seemed OK to chat to about the repair work. Anyways this guys insurance is selecting the garage I'm bringing my car to so I'm hoping they do a reasonable job.

Remember you are not bound to use their approved garage, you can use any one you want.

They said the work comes with a 3 year warranty.

Can you find out who is doing it?

You don't even have to choose to repair the car. You can choose a cash payment. You are under no obligation to use the "preferred garage", which the insurer usually has a sweet deal with, saving them money.

Be sure you have car rental costs included if you are going for a repair.
