    Hi guys,
Looking for some impartial advice: have been training steadily with goal race in mind. Best run of training I've had in ages. Race is tomorrow. Ran a fairly handy run Wednesday and on Thursday my calf was very sore. Went, had it rubbed out and rested up until today. Did a few very easy miles this morning and after a while calf was giving me trouble.

It's unlikely I will finish the race in my goal time and more likely that I'll be in worse shape when I do finish. So my question is should I start the race, go out at race pace and possibly drop out early if calf is protesting or is it better to not run at all ( my head says I already know the answer!)

Jaysis, I'd say if sore in training, of all things I'd avoid I'd avoid a race.

I know, that would be the intelligent thing to do. I'm just gutted that everything was going so well and this is such an anti-climatic end :(

Is there not another race you can target in a few weeks time?
Unless it's a foreign Marathon you have paid flights/hotels for etc, there is always another race, the training shouldn't go to waste.

Fair point meno! I need to do a bit more research on that. It's a ten miler, and I checked earlier and entry for Mallow is closed but there is probably another option. Thanks

Pakie Ryan Newmarket-on-Fergus Co Clare have a 10 mile the day before Mallow as well. Plenty to pick from this time of year.
