    hello,

We got engaged recently and have booked the wedding for September 2016. It will be a spiritualist ceremony with a big hooley afterwards.

I have been sick recently, its not possible to bring the wedding forward, but do you know if we could get married in the registry office on the sly but then go ahead with spiritualist thing next year ?

The registry office would be just us and a couple of our friends as witnesses.

    thanks :)

Of course! Why not. You just have to give three months notice with registrar. They can speed it up for you if you need it sooner for a certain reason.

You could go to Northern Ireland- you only have to give 2 weeks notice there.

You might want to just check with your spiritualist celebrant though. At the start of the ceremony you'll have to do some legal declarations where you'll agree that you know not of any lawful impediment...... Being married in the registry office might mean a Spiritualist can't marry you in a legal ceremony, so you need to check with them if they can do the ceremony without the legal parts, as you can't be married legally twice, and they might not do it without the whole shebang. Hope I've explained that clearly, not trying to scare you either just something to think about! Best of luck :)
