There's a big difference between a Celeron and an i3 processor.....

Dual core 1.5ghz, wouldn't pull you out of the bed.

I don't want it to pull me out of bed . Once it's up to posting nonsense. on the internet it'll do me fine.

I'm really surprised it's slower than those i5s and i7s in your link though . I wouldn't have expected that .

Celeron processors were always slowest from intel range. It has been like that since good 15 years. They are cheap and slow. I would be surprised if they could run 1080p youtube video

Good laptops for the price, they were more expensive before Christmas, got one for the mammy.

Does basic tasks with no issue and plays 1080p video with no problems.

Are those tablets the Windows ones?

Thanks OP, got an Asus Laptop in Cork, reduced from 399 to 199, great price

The Celeron processor is this laptop is pretty decent. It's a lot better than the atom-based Celeron's in the Dell 199 euro laptop that's very popular. For basic web browsing, 1080p video, etc, there wouldn't be any noticable difference between this and an i3. Excellent deal at 199.

Laptop is fine for the money, using it now . Just have to put 8.1 on now.

Would that be because the early Celerons had no cache and they were very slow . Modern Celerons have cache although less that their comparible performance cpu's. the upshot is there is not the huge difference in performance v comparible non Celeron cpu there once was .

I did know there was a performace hit with the Celeron which is why I posted that it has a celeron cpu. For me The 6 gigs of ram and the I tb hardirve compensated for the Celeron.

    +1

You paying older hardware but its actually superior to the new Celerons that are basically atom processors. Your getting 2gb more ram, 500gb more space and maybe 5-10% faster cpu than the Dell everybody was snapping up a month go, and you can collect it from a B&M Shop. Decent bargain imo. Yes its not an I3, but unless you find a rare refurb or a second hand machine your not going to get an I3 for 200 euro.

Also a word of advice, I got a low spec Windows 8 machine recently, it was basically unusable for a day until it downloaded and installed 8.1.

I got my linx 7" streaming 1080p from Steam no problem, celerons and atoms used to be awful alright, but they have caught up, 1080p isn't all that any more. Every since Sandy bridge the integrated GPU from intel has been getting better. They had to, who would buy a laptop for a few hundred euros that can't do 1080p when you could get a chromecast that could for 40 quid.

You're a bit behind the times. A lot Modern CPU's have GPU's built in that can can handle video with ease. Even better than old CPU's which didn't have it built. So when looking at modern CPU's you have to look at what other features the CPU has and not just the raw speed.

If it's any use to you there's none left in Dundrum. The guy reckoned they sold out on the day they arrived. I asked him yesterday evening.
