anyone use one of these adapters? http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/pci-express-lp4-to-6-pin-power-adapter-cable-a42cx my psu only has x2 6pin and my r9 290x need a 8pin and a 6pin so if i got that adapter and used the x2 6pin to 8 pin adapter that came with the card would it work ok?

Yeah they're fine. They used to be supplied with graphics cards when they started having 2x 6pin instead of 1.
