Alternatives to AnPost?

I was just wondering if anyone could help I want to ship an item that I intend to sell on ebay I am expecting it to sell for at least €1000 so AnPost is of no use to me because

    1. They will only insure an item for a miserable €35 if it's going to the US which is a joke when I often send packages with the postage price alone being close to €35.

    2. For paypal claims AnPost is useless as well because they will only say that a package was delivered to a certain country and won't go into specific details like the actual address or person who signed for it which is what paypal forces you to submit incase a buyer claims they didn't get something.

So I was wondering how else can I send this?

I have already tried TNT who say they don't insure packages??, UPS who have a different price for every single country which is no good because anyone from anywhere could buy this item and DHL only insure for up to 100euro.
A DPD worker stole my laptop when I posted it out for repair last year and it was a nightmare trying to get the laptop replaced and I didn't even get apology from DPD they just kept dragging their heels on the matter in the hope I would just go away so I won't be using them either.

I searched the forum and the last time this was asked was 2005 so please can someone help me.

We can send packages with DHL through work for a fiver.

Give the item to me. I'll make sure it gets to DHL.

Yep apparently it goes on a lot the place I was sending it to said it was the 7th time it happened with them that year alone and that was last June so i'd advise everyone to stay away from DPD.

DHL will definitely insure items for more than €100. We have used them to ship servers and other equipment to various countries and they'll insure them for whatever amount we need (around €2500 is the most we had).

Any courier company is going to charge different amounts depending on what country it is going to. Can you not set a different shipping amount depending on the country of the buyer?

I don't know why, but this thread has brought me back to 1997, when some bright spark gubberment official wanted to tax emails because nobody was writing letters and this was "killing" An Post.

No it only gives you the option of Ireland, the UK, Europe and Rest of the World. But even I could that's still well over 100 countries I would have to check the price for individually.

Thanks ill try DHL anpost customer care told me DHL wouldn't insure anything for over 100euro, maybe it's different for private sellers and companies.

An Post send their couriered items via DHL so they probably have set rates and insurance agreements with them. If you contact DHL directly you'll get better info.

Why don't you limit the eBay sale to buyers from certain countries? You can disallow buyers from the more obscure places. Or work out an average shipping cost and charge that, if you're selling an item for over €1000 will a tenner gained or lost on the shipping really make much difference? Unless the item is exceptionally heavy there's not usually much difference between America, Asia, rest of world.

Limiting the countries I send to will limit the number of people that can bid on the auction so I don't want to do that.

Looks like I can send it by DHL so thanks everyone for all the help.
