    Hi there,
a friend of mine is involved in organising this.

    http://www.meetup.com/Dublin-Critical-Mass/

The Dublin Cycling Campaign has also kindly posted the event on their Facebook Page. Takes place on the last Friday of every month. Just thought I would post here.

Mods please take this down if it is not appropriate.

If I'm not letting mass ruin my Sunday morning, then I'm not letting it ruin my Friday night either!

Is it still necessary to regularly block the traffic to prove something*, considering the general increase of cyclists in Dublin over the last few years?

I think that most (especially commuting) drivers get their idea about things while stuck in a traffic jam, watching cyclists cycling :)

    * how does it work to "make Dublin more cycling friendly"? Annoying other road users?

Do a search. It's generally denounced as counter-productive. Am surprised anyone has decided to support it.

Came across CM in San Francisco in the late 1990's. It was a huge event there then. It still happens, thought smaller: http://www.sfcriticalmass.org/

Generally, CM, wherever, is a good way to alienate any public support for cycling in the city. Granted, it can be craic cycling en masse (45 cyclists is not en masse by the way) giving the finger to the man and yelling about rights.

CM in Dublin for the ageing "been to San Francisco/Lived in the Mission" former-Indymedia moderator brigade.

Past its sell-by date and there are far more constructive ways of engaging with bike issues and enjoying a group ride.

Was caught behind this on Dame Street on Friday.

What exactly is the point? Proving the cyclists are self centered selfish smug trouble makers! If so well done.

Taking over both lanes just to p1ss everyone off.

Idiots - not for the idea but the way they are going about it

As a green anarchist, I have to say I find this particular form of protest counter productive, SF with 1500 people and a human powered audioo system is at least a spectacle, just getting in the way of traffic is being a pain in the nether regions.

If you are going to present yourself as an alternative, you should make it an attractive one.
